Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Group One:
Mar 27: Drogheda Utd v Cork City United Park
May 27: Portadown v Dungannon Swifts Shamrock Park

    Group Two:
Mar 27: Derry City v Linfield The Brandywell
Mar 27: Glentoran v Shelbourne The Oval

Derry game is live on Setanta Sports.

    Cork -v- Drogheda

Cork have Billy Woods back from a ban,
but fellow winger Roy O'Donovan remains
suspended for this game and their semi-
    final.

    Central defender Alan Bennett
    (hamstring) and strikers John O'Flynn
(groin) and Neale Fenn (back) are all
    doubts.

Simon Webb and Stephen Bradley return
for Drogheda having missed Friday's win
at Dublin City due to suspension but
Keith Fahey (knee) and Steven Gray
    (calf) remain sidelined.

'The main thing is we're in the semi-
final, says Drogheda United boss Paul
    Doolin.

    Derry -v- Linfield

    Holders Linfield visit The Brandywell
for a competitive game for the first
time in over three decades just one win
    away from securing their semi-final
place from the 'Group of Death'.

Goal ace Glenn Ferguson, rested on
Saturday, is set to return along with
Jim Ervin and Michael Gault while
Jeffrey waits on skipper Noel Bailie
    and Oran Kearney.

    Paul McAreavey, sent off against
    Shelbourne last week is banned.

    Derry are without suspended Sean
Hargan. Mark McChrystal is likely to
come in at right-back with Eddie
    McCallion switching to the left.

    Glentoran -v- Shelbourne

    Shels are without banned defenders
Colin Hawkins and skipper Owen Heary.

Sean Dillon comes in at right-back with
Jamie Harris set to partner Davy Rogers
    in central defence.

'It's going to be tough,' said Shels'
boss Pat Fenlon, who's side hasn't won
in six games since beating Glens on
    February 20. 'It's never easy getting a
    result at the Oval.

    Glentoran are without defender Mark
    Glendinning, who is suspended, but
    midfielder Darren Lockhart returns
    after a one match ban.

    SETANTA CUP GROUP 1
    P W D L F A Pts
    Cork City 5 4 1 0 9 2 13
    Drogheda U 5 3 1 1 7 3 10
    Portadown 5 0 3 2 3 9 3

    Shelbourne 4 1 2 1 3 2 5
    Glentoran 4 1 1 2 5 9 4

    top gets home sem final.

City can afford to lose one nil to lump kickers fc, sorry drogheda, and still top the group, but that one has draw written all over it.

group two is very interesting, fancy linfield to get a point in the brandywell, but can shels beat glentoran? i reckon so, that means they'd top the group giving us a home semi against linfield, assuming we dont fcuk up in drogheda.

looks on course to be a cork/shels final tbh..

Think it could very well be a Cork-Shels semi-final tbh.

Also guarentee the money stays in the EL! :D

Would love a Cork - Shels final.

Is that Cork game a result?

    Drogs 0 - 2 Cork City, result :D

    City for the league/cup double.

Dan Connor sent off for Drogs as well to make it even sweeter. He thumped Denis Behan, so a straight red.

Home semi for City anyway, and thats all that matters.

Great win for Cork City tonight.

Don't mind what Doolin says, a home tie in the semis is v. important.

We will have a full house at the Cross.

Thats Home advantage, the crowd, the gate receipts!

Dont tell me Drogheda didnt want a home draw.

    We're so good its UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Hmm..those results pretty much make it impossible for shels AND Derry to go through too...but can't complain...I reckon Linfield will beat glens anyway, so next week is still must win, draw for semi with Cork in turners cross...don't fancy that much...If shels win I can't see anything other than a Shels - Cork final which would be class :)

     Glentoran 5 1 1 3 5 12 4

Great win for Shels, could just come in handy if it goes down to goal difference. Only saw Byrne's first but heard Cahill's was a good goal. He really is on top form.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of team Glentoran field against Linfield. Two big games against Derry in just 4 days coming up!

Shels-Derry (League) on Friday night is off as Tolka is being used for an underage international.

Shels-Derry (SC) is on Monday night. Should be a cracker. A real knock-out game!!!

Cheers for that, hadn't seen it anywhere.

Yep, Derry have to win. We need a draw but realistically want a win to avoid Cork in the semi's. Easier said than done but I'm very optimistic.

Good result for us last night, despite drogheda doing their best to kick seven shades of sh!te out of anyone in a city shirt.. that and dan connor got sent off for punching denis behan so it was a good night!

any of the four teams could now finish second, but i reckon it'll be linfield as i fancy shels to do the business against derry..

linfield at the cross would be an amazing night..

Indeed it would ne for ye, fantastic without any doubt!

Shels were incredible last night for the most part:

Harris was immense. Fantastic if you ask me. Covered well on a few occasions when Rogers lost the ball or was cuaght out of position. You wouldn't have known he hadn't really played in the guts of 12 months.

Bobby Ryan had a quiet first half, got more into it in the second half when Dillon pushed forward more.

Dillon, godlike! Literally! He had one hell of a game! With Bombers form suffering at the moment, if Dillon could churn out those performances weekly I know who I'd pick at the moment! Christ, he had an overhead kick on target in the first half!! :) Not bad for someone who usually plays centre back!

Stuey had a good game aswell.

Jayo looked hungrier for the ball. Still lapses of concentration and seeming laziness, but much more effort put in than has been evident over the past while.

Crowe had another good game, holding up the ball well.

By the time Baker came on it was game over, didn't make much of an impression - but the whole team was on the backburner for much of that - despite being camped in the Glentoran half.

Ollie Cahill - By God when did he get so good again?! Very Happy My MOTM, without doubt. (AND WHAT A GOAL! :D) And Dave Crawley had a superb game behind him! (Pretty sure his free kick was going in wether Jayo got a touch on it or not!). Confident, composed defending, no hoofing, and kept posession well. Linked up really well with Ollie C.

Willo only had 3 saves to make from 3 poor shots over the 90 minutes.

Joey was good again, but needs to know when to pass the ball as he's attacking! Made several immense runs, only to try to do one bit too much and lose it. Very good placing of the ball when under pressure in the midfield though, especially good layoffs when the ball was cleared from the Glens box and he had about 3 of them charging at him from about 5 foot away, made it to one of the wingers - every time.

Please let us win the group and get Drogheda!
It appears that the Drogs may have a goalkeeping crisis on their hands with Dan Connor's sending off in last night's Setanta Cup match with Cork. Reserve keeper Charlie Treacey has a groin problem, which has been troubling him for the last while and if, according to the Setanta rules, Dan Connor is suspended for at least one match following last night's sending off, then we appear to have a potential problem for the Semi-Final which is scheduled for Tuesday 11th April. Watch this space.
