    Hi all

Can someone tell me the rules, if any, for another site having a picture/logo which resides on my site, but loads onto their page when opened.

There is an ebay page that has a logo on it. This logo resides on our website. It has been opened almost 800 times in two days. This will screw up our web statistice - I think.

Are people allowed to do this?

    Any advice would be appreciated

    >Are people allowed to do this?
    Probably not

    You can either

    1/
go through the formal/semi legal/ legal approach of contacting webmasters of offending sites. Good luck with that one.

    2/
Say the logo in question is called logo.gif.
    - Make a copy of the logo called say logo1.gif.
    - Change your site so that it references logo1.gif
    - Change logo.gif to an image that is obscene (... use your imagination here) or says something like "These guys are ebay scammers"

    Problem solved.

    you red my mind.
rename the file and make sure you update you site to the new one.

You can set up your server to reject any 'deep linking' (a call to an image which does not come from a page on your site). How do do this depends upon the server you're using or if you're using virtual hosting, your providor may be able to set this up for you (or you may have CP access to do so).

    Thanks for the replies.

Just found another site doing the same with a different image.

It's pointless to solve a technical problem with a legal approach.

The problem isn't really that people are deep-linking to your images, the problem is that your webserver lets them when you don't want it to.

Please, please, please, please do this! Let us know when you have it done and send us the link to his site with the offending image!

    I gotta see this happen!

I remember doing that when I used to play Planetarian years ago. Another team was using our picture, so we switched around as described above.

The best bit was when the team captain got suspended from the game for violating the rules against pornographic pictures (the guy doing the switch had googled for poo pictures, just to make a "you are all ****ty" comment, he was a bit naïve).

Nice one! Although you could have gone for a more interesting image to really screw this guy over!

Or create your own image saying "THIS PRODUCT IS STOLEN"

She's kinda famous. By now she's been seen by many people, though some of us can mentally work out tub + girl = not going to be good before googling.

    I never heard of her.
I had presumed that it was going to be rude (esp. with the NSFW warning) but I didn't think it was going to be like that!
    me goes off to puke!

Very nice, but I would have included a nice line within the image saying "Let the buyer beware!" or something to that effect.

    Good job though :D

Hehe, I've done that to several jackasses MySpace profiles, as well as some rap forum that was taking the mick out of the Gathering Cards. The results on the rap forum were the most rewarding. They had a good repository of "vomit" smilies.

I notice the image is still there this morning! Hehehe

A notice saying "Stolen Goods" inside the image would be quality! That skull and bones just doesn't have that much effect....

/me votes for more vulgar image!

Do a slightly obscene image or one which is so large that it will take over the whole page of their site or it will take ages to load

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭rsynnott

I'm usually too lazy to deal with this, except when the usage is significant; then they get their image replaced with a rude message, and generally they stop using it shortly afterward.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,847 ✭✭✭py2006

I notice the guy is back to using your image again!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 414 ✭✭Paddyo

He is using an image from our website. I thought it would be funny to have a Toshiba logo in the middle of a Fujitsu Siemens page

I dont want to use anything lewd as we are a business and could not be seen to do so. If it was from a personal website, well that would be different.
