Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Who's your role model i guess or who do you listen to most or admire on radio?

ME personally, i like the sound of gerry ryan's voice and some of the issues he deals with, i love listening to ray D'arcy and i love his style, he's all tongue and cheek and for some reason he gets away with it. i must admit though that in the mornings i love listening to Kc and Steve Cooper on Red fm down here in cork and in Dublin, Joe and Keith on SPin. I love the early morning laughs!!!!

    What's your opinions folks? :D

I'm young(16) but enjoy listening to Gerry Ryan.I like the segments that are on his show and just get enjoyment out of listening

Chris Morris would be my favourite of all time. Jam and On the Hour are some of the most brilliant things ever put on the air waves.

Both together, even better :) (Radio 5 / 5 Live before it went shyte)

As for proper Deejays... Wogan is still required listening, but Ken Bruce is the best pro out there, both on BBC Radio 2.

i dont really admire or look on as role models any of irelands radio presenters. but i enjoy listening to the following:

    Ger Gilroy
    Ken Early
    Ray D'Arcy
    Eamon Dunhpy
    David Mc Williams
    Declan Carty

    I use to be a big fan of Gerry Ryan but jesus i can't stand his sub-presenter Brenda Donoghue. God she goes thru my head. her voice and her attitude. i also grow tired of Gerry talking about himself and his elegant lifestyle;

"sipping brandys on the lawn with bono listening to the new U2 album whilst the kids were playin" tosser.
its a far cry from stuffing your mouth with rasher sambo's in the studio gerry. glad to see his listenership rating drop

Noel Rock - NEAR FM........ no? Oh ok, fine...

It's gotta be Colm and Jim Jim of the Strawberry Alarm Clock.

In terms of more serious radio... anything on Radio 4 is great, though there aren't many standout presenters since it's really a team effort all-round. Ove here, Pat Kenny does quite a good radio show - whatever about his TV stuff.

Sorry Ruby, they all sucketh and bloweth in my humble opinion.

Any of the motely crew you mentioned couldn't get a graveyard slot on any regional UK radio station even if they sold their soul to the devil.

Unfortunately we have such a lack of talent here that the likes of Gerry Ryan commands a €400K yearly fee from RTE.

Hopefully with the burgeoning community radio sector opening up in Ireland, we'll get some proper talent developing soon and not the usual muppets who got into RTE just because they found that secret tunnel leading from the UCD campus into Montrose.

I don't think I could name one, off of the Irish airwaves...and that's a damning indictment.
I'll not bore you by naming BBC radio DJs presenters...don't get me wrong, they have their fair share of crap too, but there is a lot more talent, and they seem to be left to their own devices music-wise...Zhane Lowe or Pete Tong are prime examples, and their shows are full of energy and life, not just because of their music output, but because you can hear in their voices that it's more than just a job to them...

Donal Dineen for music (Today FM, mon-thurs, 12.00am - 2.00am) and
Eamon Dunphy for good insight, guests and debate into the news (Newstalk)

That's a fair point but I can't get Dublin stations...saw Al a few times playing out and he's a good DJ so if he transfers that passion to his show then he desrves a mention...no doubt there are other DJ/presenters on local or late night radio that I can't speak for but the mainstream daytime and evening stuff on the main players of the airwaves is simply dire.

Only really listen to radio to and from work! In the mornings it's a choice between Marty Whelan (2fm), Chris Moyles (BBC R1) and Ian Dempsey (TodayFM). I had listened to Chris Moyles for a while, but damn, he can get very annoying (can't believe he's on over £600k per annum). So nowadays, I mostly listen to Dempsey. Might give BBC R2 a chance, if I could get it tuned in!

In the evenings, it's either Fanning on 2fm, or Cooper on TodayFM.

Agree completely with you here, music radio is laughable in the this country the exception being Tom Dunne's Pet Sounds . I listen to Tom Dunne, Pete Tong and Annie Mac regularly. I have to say fair play to Annie Mac full name Annie Mc Manus from Dublin how she rose through the ranks to get her own show on BBC Radio 1 . You can read her bio here
