FS Charter - PM dealing

I have no problem with there being a few rules in place to keep people from acting the eejit and generally messing people about. Especially when it comes to selling stuff for money. So, in my boredom this evening I decided to click on the friendly looking sticky link that read "The *NEW* For Sales Category Charter"

Then I noticed the very unfriendly message contained in the post "Failure to read this will result in either banning, thread/post deletion, or both."

Then I proceeded to read bits of the charter "in case someone found out I hadn't read it and I got banned!!!! shock....."

All was ok(ish) (rather boring and samey really) until I read the following line: "If you received an offer via PM and failed to notify the moderators, you will be banned."

Now lads. For feck sake. What planet are you lot living on? What the hell were you thinking putting that in there? Why don't you rephrase it "rat on people, it's fun and free. if you don't, I'll hurt you the only way I can. and by the way, read 20 pages of boring rules that could have been summarised in one short paragraph."

I have a phone number for Boris in the KGB if you'd like it.

So, here and now I'm stating for the record that I read as far as there and I refuse to read any further. I would also like to state that if anyone contacts me via pm to offer me money for something that I have advertised in the FS section I will politely ask them to post their offer on the thread and that they should read that particular section of the charter that they probably missed.

I will not be contacting any moderator to report on a fellow boards member over something so stupidly trivial.

I could leave a string of cutting remarks at the end of this, but I quite like using boards (when it feels less like a schoolyard) and I might get BANNED!

So, lads, get real and get a life. Not a minicall.

    Ex.

I'd like to state for the record that inserting animated .gifs and mild pornography into charters will exponentially increase users' charter digestion ratios and will be fun and not-boring and un-samey.

Shouldn't you be banned then for not reading the charter?:p

People whinging about being banned from any of the For Sale section rules should be site banned. BECAUSE ANYONE WHO DOES IS A FUCKING MORON.

IN THIS CASE I SPECIFICALLY MEAN EXACTIV! YOU SIR ARE A DUMBASS AND ARE BEREFT OF ANY REDEMING QUALITIES WHATSOVER!

ALSO I LOVE THE IRONY OF WRITING A BIG LONG COMPLAINT ABOUT THE LENGTH OF THE RULES. STFU! GET OFF THE INTERNET! YOU SMELL!

any excuse to ban, ehh! :) forget the point being made, sounds familiar...
in this case I have no opinion, I don't frequent the forum in question.

Amp, I don't know what sort of power trip you're on but you'd want to take it easy before you give yourself an injury.

In relation to your post amp, can you expand on a few things for me please (if you are capable):
People whinging about being banned from any of the For Sale section rules should be site banned. BECAUSE ANYONE WHO DOES IS A FUCKING MORON.
Can you expand on this please? I'm not banned from the for sale section rules for a start. I don't think you can be banned from reading a charter (maybe you can, I wouldn't put it past you to come up with something). Second of all, isn't swearing a bannable offence throughout boards? And why does it make me a moron (which would imply being stupid) if I happen to flick over a paragraph of the for sale charter?
IN THIS CASE I SPECIFICALLY MEAN EXACTIV! YOU SIR ARE A DUMBASS AND ARE BEREFT OF ANY REDEMING QUALITIES WHATSOVER!
Do you know me? Have we ever exchanged posts on boards? I can't remember. Maybe you could point me in the direction of some of our interactions that have lead you to this conclusion.
ALSO I LOVE THE IRONY OF WRITING A BIG LONG COMPLAINT ABOUT THE LENGTH OF THE RULES. STFU! GET OFF THE INTERNET! YOU SMELL!
If my FEEDBACK (that is the title of this forum, right?) which was slightly longer than a normal post was too much for you to handle then don't read it. And, my post is about 1/16th of the stupid rules.

Does anyone have an actual response? I expected more from the moderators to be honest. Is there anyone over the mental age of 16 available for comment? Or am I going to get a string of useless replies.

Being abusive will get you no where.
Please see the thread on this matter from around last week I believe most people made their opinions heard there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 546 ✭✭✭exactiv

I didn't realise there was a thread relating to this matter. Can you point me in the right direction, is it in the feedback forum?

In relation to being abusive, what about Amps abuse? Will anything be done about that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Note: Moderators are normal posters in this forum. If you expected a level headed answer from the Admins you should of posted in the helpdesk forum. Although Amp may be able to post there too. :)

PM dealing is there for a good reason. Prior to it we had a load of muppets abusing the FS with this system. The rampant messing is why FS areas are so strict on enforcing bans on stuff.

I realise the implications of PM dealing. It creates an unfair marketplace etc.
I'm sure there have been problems in the past, but asking people to report other users for a minor infraction and threatining them with a ban if they don't won't get you anywhere. It'll just piss people off and if people are pissed off they're not gonna do anything to help.

I'm not saying remove the part on PM dealing at all. I'm suggesting someone edit it.

p.s. my post was feedback more than an issue I required help with. so feedback forum rather than helpdesk.

You must remember the ages of posters on this site range from 12 to 40+ and the intelligence ranges from feeble minded to distracted geniuses. Many of these people have to be spoon fed as far as behaviour goes. A quick look around the other forums will show you that. The FS Mods have taken on the responsibility of protecting naive sellers and buyers from the unscrupulous and to do that have a laid out some rules. I can't really see anything in the FS Charter that isn't covered by what I would call "common sense". The rules are not perfect but they do cover most situations adequately.

All this public anguish and foot stamping gets doesn't get anybody anywhere. I am quite sure that if you found a genuine flaw in the rules and PMed the relevent mods the rule would be changed. Until then I would suggest that you either abide by the rules as they stand or go play in another sandbox.

People don't read warnings. Ban them and they learn much faster. It's easier for everyone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 546 ✭✭✭exactiv

I think the major problem is the fact that the moderators ages seem to range from 12 to 40+ (mental or physical age, it's all the same online).

What public anguish? Does having to listen to users questions about the rules that you set down make you mods feel uncomfortable?
feylya: People don't read warnings. Ban them and they learn much faster. It's easier for everyone.
Easier for the mods you mean, not for everyone else.

And I don't want to go play in another sandbox, I quite like this one.

Is the thread, Do you really think questioning peoples mental ages is a good way to not get peoples backs up?

I know this is an anology in the extreme, but you know when the gardai are asking for critical information in regards to a crime, and someone involved [innocent or otherwise] withholds information regarding that crime? Those people normally get a slap of sometime from the courts. I think that what was they hand in mind.

Besides all that, even if I wasn't the one that originated the off-deal, the fact that I received it means that I took part in the off-thread deal. So, anyone partaking in off-thread dealilng gets banned. I think common sense would prevail depending on each case though.

That said, I'm an anal ****er that goes out of my way to impose my limited power upon the FS Mobiles masses.

20 pages? It's only 11 pages at Times New Roman size 12 font with standard Word A4 page dimensions. Hardly a fuking novel.

Because you're life is so super cool that no-one that wrote that FS charter could possibly have a life that even begins to compare yours?

    Shut up.

Asok, did you read Amps post above?

This is after going to a place I always said I'd never go.

    So I'm stopping here.

You'll here no more from me on this subject. Consider me whipped into line
GoneShootin: Not reading the rules in their entirety will result in a ban
Ban me then. I read the original charter when I joined boards.

Yes, and now there is a *NEW* FS Charter. So go and read that. Are you saying also that you have not read the updates to the old FS charter since you joined? It's been updated quite over it's existence.

    Banned from the FS Category.

I was not pricking around when I said not reading results in a ban.

Like it or lump it. In fact, you don't even have to like it, just swallow it.

surely a banning would only apply if I was actually selling something? or does a ban apply just for pissing off a mod?

  • Subscribers Posts: 9,716 ✭✭✭CuLT

The banning applies for breaking charter rules, in this case, for not reading the charter. You haven't seen me pissed off. Nor are you likely to anytime in the future.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 546 ✭✭✭exactiv

Answer me this. It's a black and white question.

Do you HAVE to read a forums charter to browse a forum?

So you guys are banning people for not reading charters? Every charter on boards? Holy **** i better go over and read the charter for the mustard forum i don't think i've read that yet ;)

Why do so many threads here turn into a ****ing episode of Eastenders?

A little cop on from all sides might help things run a little smoother and keep everyone happy.

No. As long as it's public.

You only need to read the chater if you post.

You can browse any and all public forums without even having to log in, therefore the only effect a ban has is to stop a user from posting in that forum (once again, unless it's a private forum).

Obviously we can't force you to read the charter, but if you don't, don't come whining when you get banned. The FS charter in particular is more important than the charter in any other forum I moderate.

    The posters make the thread.

This is feedback so i'm gonna give my feedback, banning someone for not reading the charter shows how power hungry some people are around here, people should read the charter but if they don't and they do end up breaking a rule, ban them, its there problem.
Stop making up stupid rules that are not needed. I would bet €1000 that not even half the members on boards have read the FS charter fully, i can bet some mods haven't either.

That is all, thanks for letting me give my feedback.

It's not your place to decide what rules are and aren't needed. You have absolutely no flying notion of what we have to deal with, and your posts prove as much. Thanks, have a nice day.
