How easy is ripwave to set-up?

    My uncle who is a complete noob with computers just rang me and said he is buying a ripwave modem today and wanted to know "do i just plug this into the box and im on the internet"??

    Im sure its much harder than this is it?

    Please have a read throught this board and then convince your uncle not to get broadband.

    It'd didn't work for me first time and the help desk sorted it.
    It'd didnt realy work for the next 6 months either.

    Sorry to be negative, I doubt your uncle will have too many problems

    Ripwave is the cheapest , but also sometimes doesn't work well. There are a wide variety of Broadband products that have a wide range of price and quality.

    If the Network port is Ethernet and set to DHCP (usual default) then, yes you just plug in. If you have dialup you may need to disable "use dialup" in your web browser. Disable Dialup networing and unplug modem is a good idea, then porn diallier malware won't work :)

    If you get USB (ripwave can be either) then a driver needs installed. Ethernet is much better / easier than USB for networking and more flexible if you decide to add a home Wifi (wireless) or more PCs.

    Ripwave is better than dialup.
