Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Last similar thread I found in search was a year ago. Only players of today allowed. You shouldn't just pick 11 great individual players, but a team who you think would play well together and beat any other possible teams.

    Given
    Puyol---Terry
    Carragher---Serginho
    Gerrard
    Messi
    Rooney
    Ronaldinho
    Eto'o
    Henry

The keeper and centrebacks would have a good understanding and communication between eachother, same with the Barca trio up front. Rooney would be playing more of a defensive game(but he's a good player to put anywhere, and he has good stamina to run up and down the wing). I couldn't think of an appropriate tall frontman player, so the style of play would be arsenal-like passing. Also that makes Rooney's left-foot crossing matter less

    Dida
    Neville---Nesta--Terry--Heinze
    Gattuso
    ----Lampard---Pirlo
    --Henry
    Ronaldinho
    Van Nistelrooy

I think this team would have great balance in both defence and attack. The creative midfield would supplement the pace in attack from Lampard, Ronaldinho and Henry. RVN would be in there to purely finish the chances that would undoubtedly come in spades from such a great side. The back 5 are very solid and coupled with Gerrard and Pirlo closing down space, they would be very mean at the back too.

    Van Der Sar
    Salgado
    Terry
    Nesta
    Maldini
    Pirlo
    Pedersen
    Gattuso
    Ronaldinho

    Henry
    Shevchenko----

have always had a thing for VDS and Salgado...pedersen has had an excellent season and earns his place, probably because im totally biased, but also because i think he'd be a good team player and would compliment the individual talents all round the place :) The rest of the guys...well....legends, lol

    Juninho

    v. Nistelrooy

Very creative, and a rock at the back.

Can't believe that Nesta and Terry are automatics for most people.

    Who would you have instead?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭BolBill

Lets start with OTilidy, Serginho ??? !!!!! he is sh*t, Puyol belongs in the over rated area too.

As for you Pornapster, VALDES !!! Complete cack !!!!!

Both of you have shown a severe lack of football knowledge................. :)

Dont ask me for replacements but Given, Finnan and Maldini(still) would be better choice than those !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Any of Thuram, Ayala, Cannavaro, Samuel, Carragher or Puyol. If I had to take only two, it'd perhaps be Thuram and Puyol/Ayala. Argh, I cant decide!

    Slightly Arsenal biased but.

    Cech

    Eboue
    Toure
    Samuel
    Heinze

    Makele

    Gerarrd
    Ronaldinho
    Messi

    Henry

Toure and Samuel, would compliment each other very well. Makele one of the most under rated players in world football. Eboue, and Henize quick players, who don't shirk a challenge. Think the midfield going forward speaks for itself.

    Zanetti

    Van Nistelrooy

    Buffon
    Zanetti----Terry
    Carragher
    Maldini
    Alonso----Gattuso

    Gerrard

    Ronaldinho
    Juninho

    Henry

    BENCH:
    Adriano
    Casilles
    Messi
    Puyol
    Nesta
    Fabregas
    Shevchenko

A bit liverpool based, but i think Alonso and Gerrard are up there as the best midfielders and I think having too typical english cetral defenders will be rock solid. Also having Alonso and Gattuso holding provides room for the other 4 to roam and can provide creativity from the back as Milan play.

I dont think the front 3 need to be explained. then for the subs these are 7 players that could have just made it, but would be great replacements for all positions.

    Casillas
    ----Cafu
    Rio
    Puyol
    Cole
    Makelele
    Messi/Rooney/Ronaldo
    Kaka
    Ronaldinho
    Henry

    Van Nist
    I'd play a 4-1-3-2

It would be a very very attacking team.
Makelele would be the destroyer, winning the ball back. Once has has it he would have a lot of options for short passes, either the two best attacking full backsin the world, Cafu and Cole, or Kaka who could drop a little deeper to dictate the tempo.

Our greatest attacking threat would obviously come down the left side, with a combination of Cole\Ronaldinho\Henry making an incredible and godlike attack. However the potentcy of the right side, with Rooney(who i think i'd favour over Messi/Ronaldo just atiny bit) linked up with Cafu, is of course not to be underestimated.

Van Nist up front as the real striker would get on the end of any of the long shots that Rooney/Henry\Ronalinho/Kaka make oh so often. He also has the feet to play the intricate build up play required to work with Kaka/Ronaldinho/Henry/Rooney, while sitll having enough pace to get into the box to put it away.

Casillas is the best keeper in the world if you have an attacking team, making incredible saves non-stop all the time. The reason that Barca didn't win last week was because of him, as it always it. He is a one man defense. But luckily he'd have Rio and Puyol in front of him. Rio has got the pace to get back and defend, along with the ability to read the game incredible. Puyol also has the pace, but does what Terry does but better, get int he way of everything. Also he has a lot of experience playing in this sort of open team. Both of them also like to play a long ball and can pass the ball around better than most midfielders. Together they would work as an incredible team.

I rate Zambrotta, but Heinze would definately be my choice ahead of him.

Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world IMO. He defends as well as Heinze and Zambrotta, but going forward, he is as good a top class left winger.

Lol yes, i admit i dont watch much italian football. That was a stupid decision and, I only heard he was good from another source. Didn't even think of Heinze:o

IMO any dream team should have Rooney and Gerrard, they could both play in any outfield position(except maybe centreback).

    Anyway here is my selection

    Buffon

    Zanetti
    Nesta
    Cannavaro----Sorin

    Gattuso

    Messi
    Juninho

    Ronaldinho

    Adriano
    Shevchenko

I know alot of people dont like Sorin, but i really like the way he plays. Also I know that Adriano and Shevchenko are not really on form at the minute but i believe that they are 2 players that will always get you goals especially with the likes of Messi, Ronaldinho and Juninho supplying them.

PS Before u slate me for my picks remember its only my opinion, you don't have to agree with it! :D

I couldnt disagree more, zambrotta is unbelievable going forward, he regulary runs from his corner to the opposite box with ease, has a brilliant cross and never gets caught tracking back either.

I reckon he just edges Cole

Why are people choosing Gerrard as a defensive mid and Rooney as a winger both are world class players but there are better players who are actual defensive mids and wingers.

    Cassilas
    Neville
    Terry
    Cannavaro
    Cole

    Gattuso
    Lampard

    Kaka

    Chech
    Messi
    Gerrard
    Ballack
    Eto'o
    Puyol
    Henry

Tried to fit Henry in to the starting eleven but think Van works better in this team.

Goakeeper is pretty much a shoe in. Only one or 2 who could be in there. Back four is solid enough. Midfield is very tough choice. Ronaldinho is a 100% is everyones team. Went with gerrard cos i am a bit biased. Still a very solid choice.

Striker force is tough. Toni's scoring record in seire A is incredible. So decided to give him the nod. Very tough to decide between henry and Eto.

My view may be completly unreal and deluded, but I rate these players very highly, imo 2 of the top 5 players in the world. Even in positions like full-back, winger and defensive midfield they would do their jobs giving 100%. They are both good defenders aswell as being very competant on the ball, the only thing is if you can trust them to not go forward too much!

I forgot all about Toni when i was picking my team. He is a class player - i think he would get goals in any league in the world because he is big and stong and just a natural goalscorer.

well considering both myself and PHB figured the same, i would say it it you with the problem. you have him beside gattuso and on top of your defense therefore DM. maybe you should look at how to draw tactics then...

oh and gerrard can play DM and has before... get your facts straight.

Gerrard is nowhere near the best dm in the world, which is what we are picking no?

As for where exactly the players name is put on the sheet, does that mean they are unable to move from that spot? your team must be quality then
