Hey, we are getting a new worktop and had decided on just plain old Formica.
The fitter is really pushing the GetaCore, but its like 5 times more expensive..
Is GetaLit any better than Formica? Its only marginally dearer (same price per m)
Also, we were told that you cannot make "invisible" joints with Formica, only GetaCore, any opinions?

    Thanks!

Getacore is superior stuff it is very similar to Corian hence the COR...
Getalit is formica more or less, it is true that you cannot get an invisible joint because it cannot be welded like the getacor, however you can get a proficient fitter to rout 2 dogbone shaped holes in the underside of the bench and pull them together with a threaded rod and 2 bent pieces of metal.
Is it In-house you are using? if so go on down to the showroom and ask to see how they join the getalit worktops without the piece of aluminium angle.

Getacore is about €500 a length alright compared to about €100 for Getalite We've used Getacore in a few shops Joints can work out very well if you're used to how to fit them Plus if you scratch or dent the Getacore it can be repaired while if you dent the getalite it can't be repaired

As for invisible joints if you do fit Getalite use the system CJhaughney is on about not one with metal joiners For their showroom in Cork there was no metal joiners used All the worktops were routered and clamped together with threaded bar

Is your fitter a registered fabricator. Registered fabricators have had the proper training methods related to solid surface material like corian, samsonite ect. Its not a sort of diy job for a chippy.

well he is a member of the national guild or craftsmen and is a kitchen fitter, got his card from inHouse...

He would be using the mason mitre joint with the clamps etc.
Im just not sure if GetaCore is worth it for a "10 year plan" house yunno?

I think you just answered your own question there Greebo.
If I was fitting for a 10yr plan I wouldn't fit GetaCore. Getalit will do and is a fraction of the price.
I have hardly ever seen a dented piece of getalit or formica, in fact you would have to give it serious abuse to damage it.
