During the last OctoberFest in the Franciscan Well, I seem to remember an Apple beer being served draft in the tent. Does anybody know what it was called or where I could buy some in Cork? For some reason I've been craving a pint of it for the last few days

    Cheers,

    John.

There's an apple cider called koppaberg but that's proably not it. Apple beer sounds pretty nice

I saw the koppaberg in a few off licences but I don’t think that’s it. Koppaberg looks to be quite clear whereas what I remember is an almost cloudy drink. It was very sweet but went down so so easily :)

Try the abbot's ale house, specialist offie off coburg street, they generally stock most of the beers from the beer fest, they also stock plentiful supplies of delerium tremens.........sweet delerium tremens........

Nice one Cool_CM :). I'll try and take a trip in there tonight (once I figure out where coburg street is!)

When looking up Patrick's hill on bridge street swing a left against the flow of traffic, walk down past Sin e and it's down there on the corner across the road on the right(the side street by the old courthouse)

Splendid, thanks :D I'll have a look at the weekend, I'm too tired to go out now. Is it an off licence or a pub?

Hmm what's this delerium tremens like? And most importantly how much a can is it :)

According to wikipedia it won best beer in the world during 1998. Thats some achievement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delirium_Tremens_%28beer%29

Delerium is incredible! Too bad I'm doing exams during the Easter Beer Fest.

Can you get it anywhere else in Cork?

If you find the name, and where you got it, post it up. Always on the look out for cider. And cider-beer sounds great :o)

Shouldn't that be "Delerium is tremen-dous"? Or did somebody do that already?

John, what you want is a nice pint of Old Fashioned. Put hairs on your chest. And the inside of your mouth, and the palms of your hands, and....

A pint of Old Fashioned... Are you out of your ****ing mind?!?!!?! The last time I had that, with you I might add, there was much memory loss and unpleasantness the following morning :( And that was just a glass!

If you went through what I went through you wouldn't be so quick to try it again!

Must've been a bad slice of fruit.

I think I've found it! I went into the abbot's ale house today and they had Floris Apple which I'm pretty sure is what I was looking for. Its a 3.6% Belgian beer, very sweet but going down nicely. Unfortunately I only bought 2 bottles so it’ll be gone soon :(

Is that somewhere in Cork? If so, I'll check a few of the off-license's around where I live, as some do a very wide range.

Right in the city. X marks the spot on the attached map :)

You didn't spot if they had any exotic spirits in there as well, did you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

I didn't I'm afraid. I just went in and asked the guy at the till but from my *very* quick glance around it seemed to be mostly beer but I could be totally wrong.

It was most probably Koppaberg, which is Swedish and comes in apple and pear 4.5% proof and berries which is a 7% killer. Never been more sick than I did after drinking the 7% stuff. A lot of off licences including O Donovans and even some Spars stock it. I've also bought it back in Dublin in the Lord Mayors off licence on Main St, Swords.

They didn't have it :(. I was all excited when I walked up to the bar tonight but it was not to be. All they had was Newton apple beer which seems very week in comparison to the stuff they had last time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,329 ✭✭✭radiospan

No Delerium Tremens this year either! Terrible news.

Although they have this amazing Belgian Raspberry beer on tap, seemed to be very popular last night. Anyone here try it? (or know the name of it? started with F i think.)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

Yeah I tried that. Its called Belgian Framboises and it was nice alright but I only got around to having 1 pint of it.

By any chance are you thinking of Newtons?

In other news, at last nights fest I ate 2 burgers and a hot dog... And was still hungry later.
