    Hey all,

I'm just wondering if changing the original 'steering wheel with airbag' to a 'sports steering wheel with no airbag' affects the insurance and do you have to tell the insurance company about the change? I'm thinking it would cause your removing a safety aspect of the car but I'm not to sure. Any info would be grateful.

    Cheers

any modification to your standard car has to be noted by your insurance company even headunits!! This is because you are altering the original layout/structure of the car!!

Its better if you contact the insurance company and tell them just incase you have an accident and they donot even pay up.that would be a stupid mistake.

I'd give em a ring and enquire but with mine they told me that its only performance mods or mods for hadicaped people or duel controls etc that they mean when they ask if the car has been modified. Wheels/Bodykits lights dont matter. just include the value of theese items in the value of the car if you want them covered by the insurance.

Once the steering wheel has a working horn then it should be ok for the NCT.

You may also have the airbag warning light on constantly after you replace the wheel, Even when you put the original steering wheel back on it will display the light.

Normally a specialist can help you bipass this, I know on a skyline I had the boss kit came with a connection to allow you to turn off the light,

Just take out the warning light. Some boss kits are specially designed to bypass this. Extreme care should be taken if removing an airbag steering wheel. Remember, it is an explosive device.

regarding the nct, the horn doesnt have to be one the steering wheel at all.

my horn isnt on the wheel so thats no bother but my bag has exploded already and have my nct comein up soon and its much cheaper to get a performance steering wheel than get the bag fixed, does ne one know where i can get the bulb sorted out on the dash board, it keeps flashin

    a) take out the bulb
    b) get the boss with the bypass for the SRS light.

Not true. I never told them I put in a €600 Pioneer stereo. When it got nicked I claimed it from the insurance no problem. Just had to provide a receipt.
