    Rainbow Week

Rainbow Week is this week!!! We have been work on this for a month now and there is a full outline of events below, the week is going to be great and we have loads of great events planned, and a trip to UCD as well for a big intervarsity

Monday - Official Launch of Rainbow Week by Max - GLB President and Nicola Reidy - VP Welfare
12.30pm in Meeting Rooms 3 & 4 in the SU, light refreshments provided and snacks. Includes a pesentation on GLB Society and the Gay Community World Wide.

    - Movie Night - 7.30pm John Hume Building ... (JH L7) Film is 'But I'm a Cheerleader' - A Comedy / Romance / Drama Of Sexual Disorientation, A naive teenager is sent to rehab camp when her straitlaced parents and friends suspect her of being a lesbian.

This film is a biting and hilarious parody of people who not only force themselves into artificial molds but also feel the to make other people fit the same stereotypical molds. The main attack of the satire is on the delusion that homosexuals can be cured by people who are themselves repressed homosexuals.

Deliciously silly victorian roles of males and females are superimposed on the teenagers who struggle not to be who they really are. But the garishly-colored costumes of the 1950's "Father Knows Best" and "Leave It To Beaver" style are as incongruous as the fake role-playing. In the end, at least some of the young victims of this cruelty escape to face a life of being themselves.

Tuesday - Gay Bashing Our Way, esentially a self defence workshop... 12 - 2pm in the Small Spots Hall, So well you all know Gay people can be attacked from time to time like anyone else in town after a great night out ... so we taught we would do a self-defence class. The training has been designed for these unfortunate situations which we hope you dont find yourself in.

If you coming wear a loose bottoms (no shorts, buttons zips etc...) and a T shirt, this wont be to taxing for those of us like me who are unfit so come along and have some fun ... and i hear that the guy running it is really cute too...

Hope to see you all there!

    - Coming Out Workshop ... @ 6.30pm in Meeting Rooms 3 & 4 in the SU, presented by Ross Higgins - Baby Blue Training Facilitator, A safe space for students to talk about their coming out experiences weather big or small funny or sad ... this workshop is amied exculivesly at LGBT students and was a great success at Baby Blue Training in Cork.

Wednesday - Alternative Debs !!! Tickets available from Max, great night out in another intervarsity, the night will be hosted by UCD LGBT and formal wear is encourgaed but not necessary ... should be a great night. Tickets are €3 and the Society is covering

Thursday - Coffee Morning ... as usual 11 - 1pm in the Speakeasy, all of us can be zombies together after the night before.

Drag Swan ... Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my pleasure to announce the first ever Drag Swan, an intervarsity Drag pageant to decide who will be Mr. or Miss Alternate Student 2006!

The show will consist of three parts: Firstly, the transformation, secondly, the talent, and thirdly, the evening-wear. Our contestants will be torn to shreds (lovingly) and then put back together by our expert judges, but only one can be crowned our King or Queen!

Tickets will be €5 (€3 concession for those attending in drag!), to be paid at the door, and all proceeds will go to Belong2 (www.belongto.org), so you have no excuses for not showing!

ALL WELCOME SO BRING YOUR FRIENDS !!!
