heya im just newly registered to this forum but i have been reading it for a while now trying to get information on tongue piercing.

Anyway i decided to get it done and i did today! i got it done in snakebite by a really nice guy, i dont his name unfortunately! if anyone can tell me that would be cool... he had about shoulder length hair and was really nice.

He started by telling me that tongue piercing is the most dangerous piercing! :( scary! but went on to say its the leats painful and i hav 2 agree.. it was really easy, although a strange sensation to be left ther for 2 seconds with a big needle thtough my tongue!

Anyway i can talk pretty well now, but trying not to. My family doesn't know yet! Waiting for them to suss it and hopefully not kick up a fuss!

One thing i am wondering about is the fact that so many people on the forums were eating solid food two days , or even hours after being pierced.
I was strictly told not to eat solid food, dairy products, sugary or spicey foods for two weeks.

I just realised that that includes Easter Eggs. Does chocolate reeealy count as a sugary food?! :o

    And thanks again...

Glad reading any of the threads on here helped you in your decision and wel done for getting it done.
parents will probably kick up a fuss. they usually do. good luck with hiding it. mine lasted two hours before they knew!!

Some people do eat solid foods straight away.they just can. not everyones tongue will swell up to maximum and others just can't stay away from food.
At least try and stay off solids for 3 days...after that you can try and ease yourself on them again.
Do try and stay away from sugary stuff and spices though. I know when I got mine done they stung the hell outta it...it'll be alright after a while.

your tongue will swell up for about a week, you will most likly not be able to talk clearly. i wasnt able to eat for a week. your family will figure it out by tomorrow, maybe tonight if you live with them.

    Did chocolate sting aswel?

Don't worry about the "looking like it's all infected", that happens to just about everybody. It's just your body's way of protesting that you've shoved a sharp metal object unprovoked into part of it.

As you've probably been told by your piercer (if not, see the rest of the forum for similar threads), you can use a number of different things to clean it. The most common is saline solution (salt and water), although it tastes revolting so wouldn't be my personal choice. This should clear it up within a week or two. If you're still having problems then it's time to consider worrying :p (or just staying calm and going back to your piercer for advice, whatever way you're inclined...)

I was able to eat solid foods on the day i got it done. Though what was most annoying is the length of the bar, ha, used really piss me off. Anywho, soft pasta is easy enough to eat methinks.
As for chocolate, i didn't have any problems.. But everyone's different..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Audie

cool thanks, yeah im using saline its not too bad as long as i dont make it too strong, also using oral B alcohol free.
I have been able to shovel down some noodles... got easter eggs in my room that are callin my name! lol
Most food tends to be okay if i shove it to the back of my mouth, the noodles tangled a little!

Oh and my parents found out...

    how did they take it?

mine were shocked, but they accepted it, no angry yelling or anything, they were kinda impressed i had everything i needed...

well my mam knew i wanted it done, just not today! She was a bit annoyed i guess. My dad said he was disapointed but that doesnt really bother me..
I dusted off the blender and made some nice banana ice mush :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 372 ✭✭crazy_dude6662

lol. atleast they took it well...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Audie

yeah they just keep slagging me, but i think im talking quite well... a bit worried about the swelling tomorrow though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 372 ✭✭crazy_dude6662

ice, maybe some pain killers that reduce swelling, cant remember the word lol.

try not to talk to much...

    cold things in general...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Audie

headaches are natural, just drink plenty of water, i was dehydrated,

i had a throat infection and the doctor threatened to send me to hospital if i didnt start eating or drinking...i didnt do either for about a week after i got it done, and the day i got it done all i had was a bar of dark chocolate..

I find dentists very negative about piercings especially oral ones, suppose for good reasons :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Audie

actualy i have a dentist appointment next week :s

and just to say, i actualy ate pasta today, and a piece of bread and jam :)

    yay solid foods!

Chocolate is really gonna be a problem for me sice i was told, no dairy. Is it reeealy that important?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭daiixi

I think you'll be fine with chocolate. Don't stress yourself out over what to eat/not to eat. What was probably meant by dairy is yoghurt or milk or icecream. I was never told to keep clear of dairy and it didn't do me any harm! tbh, the more I stress over looking after a peircing "properly" the more problems I have with them!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Audie

Yeah, i guess i just really dont wanna mess this up!
I know its the most dangerous piercing, and i dont want to end up with no tongue!
And also, i dont want to give my mother the satisfaction of 'i told you so!'

It's fantastic that you don't want to mess it up and you realise what you've done and my mum is still waiting (seven years) to say "I told you so!". So try to follow the instructions that the peircer gave you, but indulge in a little chocolate and make sure you rinse afterwards! Oh and don't use straws when drinking. They create a vacuum in your mouth and cause further swelling. YOUCH
