If you know what your FPS is with a .12, tell me it and i'll calculate what it would be with .2/ other weights :)

    Just been looking at this:

    http://www.arniesairsoft.co.uk/?filnavn=/articles/fps_limits/fps_calc.htm

And I see I'm WELL within the 1 joule limit.....:)

Dug out my old CB-625 chrono (from my airgunning days) and double checed the fps. Yep. Average 130fps with a spread of about 10fps.

    Gun is a Umarex/Walther P99 AEG

May as well ask what guns/gear ppl have ( in storage where such things are legal of course) or what they are thinking of getting.

Ive been looking at the CA G36E/K and the CA33E in paticular. I've made an order on ehobbyasia for accesories incl. a G&P RDS and I've already got a 3300mAh 9.6v batt. Won't bother with clothing until Airsoft gets set up properly here.

If i order a airgun online is it totally legal and will get to me ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭B00MSTICK

Airsoft guns are currently not legal in the Republic. Getting one online may be seen as importation of arms. You may be lucky and it might get through customs but its not a risk I'm willing to take anyway.

The new CJB will class all airsoft guns with a muzzle velocity of under 1 joule as a toy, and therefore legal. The bill should be in within a few weeks/months.

Well what you were saying about not being for sale to people under 18. In the Uk and most other countries in Europe they are sold to anyone over 14. So why make it higher here?

Ya, me too. It was meant to be enforced on the 7th. What ever happened to it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭IronWolf

Its still going ahead, its just that some parts of the bill will take time to go into affect due to the size and complexity of the bill apparently :) . On the bright side, it gives everyone more time to save up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Oh ok i get it now, Thanks! but i want my gun now!!!ha ha ha... im a very impatient person...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭-Strawbs-

At the moment you can get them here by the ferry, if you were on holiday to the Uk or France or something. But sure they should be legal here soon so theres no point. :D

i take it Vlmaxis was just messing about when he said a shop in dublin stocks airsoft or has there been any news

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭B00MSTICK

I'd say any place found stocking replica firearms like that would be stopped fairly quickly, until the new bill is in anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

he said that you had to order them and get the permission first

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,674 ✭✭✭Skatedude

but did any1 find out where the shop is, i already talked to my local guards and they said it would be fine as soon as the details were sorted with the new law,
The local guards all know me and my family because we own a hotel in the area and they come in on their days off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

the cjb has been signed into law but now we just have to wait for it to come into efect.

Skatedude, was it you who bought the gun on ebay? if so did it get through?

nope it didnt, but i dont think it was customs, i emailed the shop and got a replay, but its all in german and i cant read it, as far as i can tell hes looking for some additional payment as he has included his iban number and bank details, i'm just waiting for a m8 to translate it and get back to me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 357 ✭✭Quillo

Just cut an paste the email, sentence by sentence, into Google language tools. Have often used it for French, German and Italian eBay transaction translations. Its easy to use and very good.

i babelfished it and it was saying that hes waiting for payment, odd as i paid by paypal the same time day i won the auction, my paypal account says it was paid but unclaimed so i sent a copy of the paypal transaction(less personal info) to prove it was already paid for, hopefully i'll hear back soon

if you look at the shooting forum it has a full sticky on the new cjb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,318 ✭✭✭Miscreant

Just spotted in the Shooting forum that the bill was signed into law on 16-07-2006 by the President. No one on the forum seems to know about power limits or muzzle velocity yet though. It is on page 35 of the Criminal Justive thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭Hauk

It was signed into law, but not enacted yet. I'm expecting an e-mail back from Customs and Excise as to wether we are allowed import airsoft guns. Until then, I'm not gonna attempt anything.

    Hauk

Given that this thread has had 2873 viewings and 129 postings alone, I think that should be proof enough that Airsoft should have its own forum....

This thread has generated more traffic than the whole Frisbee forum already.

Best news ive heard all month! :D:D:D

By the way, where did you find that out?

Unless whupass has new information that I don't know about, in which case, fair play to him, and I'd love to see it, the (firearms) legislation brought into effect on 1 August was to do with the firearms amnesty, increases in fines and penalties, and the provisions to allow the Minister to 'deem certain firearms as restricted'.
The rest of it (including the bit about 'things' with a muzzle energy of under 1 Joule not being 'firearms') has yet to be commenced, as far as I know.

Here's an excellent (amateur ie- NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT!) restatement of the legislation with all the new stuff included-
    http://www.wilkinstowntargetshootingclub.org/Documents/FirearmsActAmended/FirearmsAct.html

...and here's the announcement of the commencement order on 1 August-
    http://www.justice.ie/80256E01003A02CF/vWeb/pcJUSQ6S9M99-en
Note that 'further parts of Part 5 will commence on 1 November', so I'd expect that the rest of it will come into force then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

parts 1-8 came in yesterday and part 1 is the part which defines a firearm and the bit with the muzzle energy, which legalises airsoft guns. or what have i got wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭-Strawbs-

Not to take sides here but i think whupass could be right. Check out Rovi's 2nd link
    http://www.justice.ie/80256E01003A02CF/vWeb/pcJUSQ6S9M99-en
The top section seems to show what has already come into effect but the bottom half shows what is to come into effect in the future, and the firearms and fireworks are in the top section. Make any sense?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

see i never saw anything saying airsoft was legal, just that guns aren't guns if the muzzle energy is under 1 joule, it's not said they are toys or need orange tips or anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭-Strawbs-

Id say its in......Think its safe to start ordering?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

wait, make a list of your arsenal and then buy it all together, why not buy the doj? actually i think i will now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭-Strawbs-

Ya, but it could look kind of bad ordering a load of guns together seeing as it is a new law and stuff. Sort of IRA-ish?
    Btw, whats the Doj?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

    YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i rang the DoJ department of justice, and asked they said that the restricted arms part will take a FEW months(5-6) BUT that the definition of 1 joule is IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so tomorrow we could legaly buy airsoft guns!!

he said to be careful when getting them but they are legal!!

Fair play to you whupass, if the DOJ have given you the go-ahead, that's great.

I thing some confusion arose because the 'Parts 1-8' mentioned in the commencement link (http://www.justice.ie/80256E01003A02CF/vWeb/pcJUSQ6S9M99-en) refer to parts of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, Part 5 of which deals with amendments to the Firearms Acts.
The only sections of part 5 referred to there deal with the stuff I mentioned in a previous post, and the bit at the end states that 'further parts of Part 5 will commence on 1 November'.

The Section 1 mentioned here that deals with Definitions and covers the 'under 1 joule' thing, is a part of the Firearms Acts, and is NOT mentioned in the above commencement order.

Anyhow, it appears that the DOJ are content, so happy shopping :D
