The fancy new specialist food retailer on Exchequer St. was open today.

Nice to walk around but a little light on products I thought. They had a sandwich and hot food counter for eat-in or take-out but I didn't try it.

    Has anyone else visited?

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the place. Not rip off, which is surprising!

Docor is a bit empty. Lots of staff!!!

I was thinking that too. There's zillions of them around. So, the fruit and veg display is immaculate, i think the staff amuse themselves by polishing the fruit and making intricate pyramids.

I had the sauages, mash and red onion marmalade from the prepared meal counter - it was 4euro something. Took it home and nuked it in the microwave, it was very nice, a generous helping too.

I'm quite cross at it. It's as tempting as Starbucks, yet ultimately, just as souless. I'll stick with the deli and little shop I know, where I know the staff and owner by name, the prices are cheaper, the quality fantastic, where they give discounts for fealty and chat to my son.

That said, I will be succumbing to some of the astoundingly fresh figs and papayas from Fallon & Byrne at some stage over the next few days. I'm only human, and it's on the way home from work! :(

I like my food, same as the next man.

But when I read in (I think) the Tribune, that these guys were opening, and that they were likened to Donnybrook Fair, I thought to myself - overpriced, look-so-good crap. No urgent need to visit.

In fairness, I haven't noticed it being particularly overpriced. And they do very handy jars of tasty pasta sauce in 190g sizes. Perfect when cooking for 1 and cheaper than using half a full-size (350g?) jar.
