Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wireless Pcmcia question

    Hi Guys,

I've had a wireless system here for the past 5 years and all is going well - i recently noticed an increase in bandwidth and i assume someone got into my system.

Now i know that WEP is easy enough to crack , but i wanted to check this out for myself and see if i could do it , but it seems my wireless card in the laptop isnt any good for a linux system.

I have read that the Prism based cards are the best for this type of security check as they are recognised by the linux apps that usually crack the WEP passwords.

Anyway , i need someone to recommend some cards to me , and where to get them - the cheaper the better as i have an inbuilt card already for surfing in windows , its just to check my own security holes with linux for now , so i dont need too much power or cost.

If you are looking for a Cardbus card, then Senao NL-2511 CD PLUS (built in antenna) or NL-2511 CD PLUS EXT2 (for use with external antenna) are based on the prism 2.5 chipset and are widely regarded as among the best for wireless sniffing etc as they have a particularly sensitive receiver in addition to higher than normal transmit power at 200 mW (23dBm)

There are also miniPCI versions and a CF version for PDAs.

Available on eBay or from any amount of online vendors in Europe and US eg:

I dont suppose you know if the Senao EnGenius 11g NL-3054CB PLUS Wireless PCMCIA Card would work ok for this kinda thing as well ? It says its Intersil Prism Frisbeesolution Chipset Integrated Built-in Diversity Antenna but im unsure if thats the type i need ?

I havnt seen wepcrack running on a windows box yet may work under cygwin but i doubt it

Look spicifically for cards that are supported by linux. I picked up a sweet Orinoco Gold card for 30euro on ebay

Would recommend anything that will be supporded by madwifi drivers which is essentially Atheros drivers.

As for details on how to crack wep i wont help there but i will say its wayyyy too easy.

Oh and just because traffic went up doesnt mean u have someon on ur lan. I suggest you look at ur router logs and start leave eatherreal running to see is anything funny happening.

With regards to wepcrack on windows you are able to do everything except inject packets, which is the main part. This is due to a windows issue.
Its surprising there hasnt been a work around yet.
Also Atheros is by the best chipset to go with, closely followed by the Prism chipset.
And a really good pci card is the Visit phpBB!
