Bob Roberts is on 3e at 10pm tonight: Tim Robbins' magnum opus about a corrupt right-wing US politician and his rise to power. Before I saw this I was wondering why Robbins was so highly-regarded, and now I know: he wrote it, directed it, starred in it, wrote and performed all the songs, and (I imagine) cooked the food on set too. Bob Roberts' politics are basically the oppposite of Tim Robbins, who plays a subtly evil character with obvious glee. :p

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

    Infernal Affairs

    Channel 4 (00.20am - Saturday Night/Sunday Morning)
A tough detective struggles to identify where his loyalties lie after 10 years working undercover as a member of the Triads. He is forced to put his dilemma to one side when he realises a fellow officer has turned informant for the gangsters. Hong Kong thriller, later remade by Martin Scorsese as the Oscar-winning The Departed. Starring Tony Leung, Andy Lau, Anthony Wong, Eric Tsang and Kelly Chen.

Very good movie, Well worth catching if you haven't seen it already.

    True.

Followed by the original version of The Hitcher.

    Big hi-5 to 3e tonight.

    Insomnia

    RTE2, 21:00 tonight.

    Brilliant thriller.

Directed by Chris Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight, Inception etc.) and starring Al Pacino in non-shouty form.

Tip: Keep your eye on the bullets - or you may get lost.

Agreed, and, on second viewing, it ain't hard to follow either. May well have had beer the first time I saw it. :pac:

Continuing the Nolan theme - Batman Begins, ITV2, 21:00, tonight.

Takes a while to get going, and clearly a foundation for the masterful The Dark Knight, but a fine reboot of the franchise that almost manages to make Tim Burton's efforts look like the sixties TV series.

Sorry for sounding like a film critic there. :o

Just heard the announcer say that. I would be quite a Cusack-phile, but must admit I have never heard of this.

    Anyone seen it?

Sugar is on tonight on BBC2 at 11.50pm - pity it's on so late, but it's a great 'anti-sports-movie' sports movie, by the same directors who were involved in the Half Nelson. It's about a young Dominican baseball player 'Sugar' Santos who is brought to US with the chance to take a shot at the American dream...definitely worth a go.

Saturday, TG4 21:45, Glory; Oscar-winning story of the first Black regiment to fight in the US Civil War. Morgan Freeman plays their Sergeant-Major, and Matthew Broderick is their inexperienced Lieutenant Colonel. Will they work together to lead their troops to Glory?
