The Irish Dental Association is having a information evening open to the public on the 27th April 2006 in the RDS at 6.15 PM. Entrance is free and all are welcome. Would be nice to have some boardsies there

    Details here and poster attached.

The format of the evening will be a series of 5 short -12 minute- presentations covering all aspects of oral health. It will be very much focused on the message of preventing dental problems and maintaining dental and oral health. The evening will be in plain and non-jargon language.

All the information in the evening is particularly applicable to you if you have an interest in improving your overall health and well-being.

A summary of the five presentations is as follows

    1. Terrific Teeth for Tots and Teens
What every parent needs to know about preventing dental disease in children with the particular focus on cavity prevention, avoiding gum problems and reducing orthodontic treatment.

    2. Games and Sports Injuries
The area of games and dental injuries will be addressed. Two aspects will be covered; how to deal with a dental injury when it occurs, and how to prevent or minimise possible damage. Knowing what to do immediately after a dental injury can reduce the amount of dental treatment needed in the future.

    3. Saving Your Life by Cleaning Your Teeth
Gum disease is now known to affect general health, with a link emerging between gum disease and heart disease, and lowering the birth weight of babies. This talk focuses on that link with the take-home message on early recognition and prevention of gum disease and therefore improving your overall health.

    4. Checking Lumps and Bumps in Your Mouth.
Early recognition of mouth cancer, and what to do about it. The role of regular dental checkups in the area of oral cancer will be emphasised. Your dentist is more likely to find cancer in your mouth at an early stage. The sooner cancer of the mouth is noticed and treated, the better the outcome and survival.

    5. Quitting Because I'm Worth It
The effect of smoking on your mouth is severe. The motivation and techniques in trying to quit will be discussed if you are thinking about it then this is the place to start.

The Irish Dental Association is very pleased to be presenting this event. It is in response to queries from various sources including the general public for information about the prevention of dental disease.:D
