Sig Of The Month

As suggested by CuLT here a monthly sig theme might be a nice idea and since nobody has mentioned it again I though I would do a post.

It would be a simple matter of choosing a theme, and on the first of the month everyone would have a graphical signature based on that theme. For example If I was to say that this months theme was organic silhouettes Then images like this might be along those lines.




I suppose some sort of order to it would be nice, I mainly do my sigs 80x300 with a 1 px border, but that is where any comparison ends, but as long as whatever you do is within the sig rules I see no problem, I also added a little logo which might be a nice idea and will get people interested if they keep seeing it. I reckon we could have a little competion for the logo too. Anyway who wants in?

Would everyone have to do their own sig? I'd like to do it, but don't have much experience.

No it would'nt be nessessary to do your own at all, but it would be a great way to get better. For example given a theme you could mention your idea and get some help on the best methods to approach it.

Sounds good anyway, count me in, first question though is do you generally just use google images to get a background or do you have some decent free pic sites?

Mainly google images, however on ossacion getty images or Deviant Art. However the trick is finding the right image, sometimes its easy other times it's a bitch.

On disscusion with others on IRC it was suggested that immigration was a good theme, so if somebody wants to have a themed sig but cant make one ask and you may be surprised.

I think that the beginning of the month is a good time to arrange the amss sigafaction...

Wait, are you going to be posting size requirements (like KBs and width and length?)

Is it going to be theme only? Who will judge it, an open poll to all users or just an admin flip of the coin? What will be the prize? I'd say a "userbar" style thing for you sig saying something like "SOTM: May winner" would be good.

5. Colabs allowed: Y/N
6. No porn/racism
7. Staff allowed to enter: (depends if they are judging it)
10. Animation allowed: Y/N
11. Can be an old signature: Y/N
12. One signiture entry per person: Y/N

BTW has this been run before, i'm surprised there isn't already a section or sticky for signature requests. Another idea is battles, where someone throws down a signature spec, then the first person to accept designs one, then a poll is started and the person with the highest score wins.

ok but they are general rules for the boards, the dimensions and size can be set, but can i then enter 20 signatures and have my best one chosen? Will the 20KB rule be inforced as well for the competition, if someone posts an excellent 25KB sig and someone a mediocre 19KB, they'll win?

The whole point would be that these sigs would be used for the month of their theme, so they would have to be within the rules.

Ok cool, so we'll be displaying our sigs as our own. Not just posting pictures of them in the SOTM thread.

Do we have to have a sig already designed for may 1st? or will the competition start on may 1st and we can then design a sig any time through out may? When is the cutoff date for entries, and if i design a better sig before the cutoff date can i use it instead of the one i've already submitted?

There are alot of questions that a clear set of rules before each competition would rectify.

So since it begins on May 1st, does that mean that we have to display the sigs. for the whole month and then wait til the end of the month to find out the winner?
