Finally its here ! Problem with EPG mix up

its great to finally have this forum, let me the first to post a problem.

I have my htpc running fine now for over a year,

i'm not sure of the exact components but its roughly this

Aopen Xc Cube AV
Nvidia Geforce 5200 256
1gb Ram
320gb HD
Hauppaunge 500mce prv
Dvd rw
Card Reader.

i am running MCE 2005 and i was pretty excited at the release of rollup 2. I installed the update and then went off and re setup my EPG. (I am using it wil sky digital) I then spent some time rearanging the tv channels as they should be on the guide but now every so often the EPG seems to loose the channel number i gave it and i have to rearange them.

Anyone got any idea's

basically,
each month MS release a revised version of the epg.

this is where the updates come from so your epg is updated automatically to the latest version so that you can receive channel information.

if you dont update you wont get the info,
if you do update,
you have to deal with microsofts programmers randomly assigning channels

as ntl and sky dont give MS their channel listings like they do in the uk,
everyones mappings are done manually and this is why nothing matches up after the upgrade.
the joys of having to live in an "unmapped" area

if you go back to the old prefs file,
as some suggested doing, youll have zero listings

im sure that some day sky and ntl will share the listingsn with ms,
althoguh ntl arent even able to share the listings with themselves right now,
epg listing comes from uk,
channel feed from ireland,
epg doensnt match channel feed - see sky one at 6.30pm

There is some information at this MS MCE developers blog in the comments section someone asks him about re-mapping the channels and he says this;

Hi AeroSign - I talked to the guide team a little bit and they indicated that the only reliable way to re-map the channels is to delete the folder %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Ehome\EPG, re-run Guide Setup from the Media Center TV Settings menu, and force another download of the line-up and channel listings.

It might be worth a go doing that so it starts again fresh. Maybe someone else has an idea of what fixes this..

Edit: Brain asleep yeah doesnt really have to do with your issue.

thanks for the info, not sure if that will really solve my problem.

is it related to automatic updates ?

not automatic updates,
when you set up the guide,
you allow it to download updates on a daily basis.

deleting the guide isnt really going to solve the problem of having to redo yur custom channel list

i think i might go back to the tv guide for the uk

you loose tv3 and tg4 but its better than having the guide mix up so often

will you get rte 1 + 2,
city channel,
channel 6,
setanta,

and so on for ireland,

plus the unlisted uk ones, mgm, abc1 and so on?

id probably change to uk myself if i just lost tv3 and tg4

I'm on NTL and I get Setanta listings thru the EPG no prob (no city or C6) - it's available on both Digital Cable Unmapped and Analog Cable Unmapped.
