all this material has come from my friends on another board PENYOURS and RVTURNAGE audio experts, extremely interesting, and as i don't see a proper thread on the whispers I'm gonna start this one, Free software like AUDACITY can be used to decipher these sounds, by playing around with speed and directions

Here’s some proof from TPTB that the Whispers are important:
JAVI: "the whispers are exactly what you hear on the screen - i know that sounds oblique, but if i told you what they were saying, then you'd know, and if i told you that they were just random noise you might not think of us as geniuses anymore! trust me, you are seeing/hearing exactly what we want you to. kind of like the outer limits that way. we control the horizontal AND the vertical. the degree to which you want to investigate is up to you!"
RAGGS: "you should definitely pay attention to the whispers. Not because they will provide you with a specific answer to your question, but rather because they play a part in a much larger mystery (that will be answered, I promise) of the island and ALL of it's... features "
Javi says they make the whispers "cryptic" :we do make an effort to make the whispers cryptic... but as to whether or not there's clues there... well, let's just say there's easier ways to get clues! i would tell you that they are relevant but not necessarily crucial to an understanding of the series...

My thoughts: it appears there's more than one monster...apparently several..and a whole lot of people controlling them! They also seemed to be surprised, which seems to contradict TPTB's "They were brought here for a reason". Unless someone from within DHARMA had second thoughts, and intentionally crashed the plane in order to thwart what was going on...mole anyone?

Appears they were going to leave the losties alone if they stayed on the beach..when they entered the jungle...."they're now an intruder". Also, these seem to be some pretty cruel SOB's...teasing Kate when she's hiding in the tree "like the way you left them to be eaten"...

And what's that interferance..."try and get to the tower"? I'd really like to hear from some of you "old WHISPER shippers"...love to get your input on what you all think!

These voices remind me a lot of the whisperers...if not for the disparity of the whispers not knowing about the crash when they first encounter Sayid, I'd swear they were related. Perhaps there's more clues between the pilot and solitary...

Besides the fact that I was just giving a link where you could read em all (what's the harm in that), the audio clips you give aren't all that much better than the ones on the site I linked. So take a chill pill.

The mp3 file linked to in the post has everything tweaked and slowed down, no need to do anything but get some headphones and spend some time listening......, a lot of folks have trouble hearing the voices in the files posted. it has to do with soundcards, applications, speakers, etc., and just plain old ability to focus past certain sounds. keep working on it, if u can adjust your left and right speakers it will help alot

I agree. Am I the only one who's mostly hearing music? If that's the clearest that the whispers can be made, then I'd imagine the "translations" are just wishful thinking.

I gave a listen & did all the slowing down carrying-on, but nothing. THen I checked the episode (2nd torture scene) - and there are no noises in the interrogation scene

it's the scene with Sayid and Shannon, just before Walt appears...the "shhhh" you hear in that scene is Walt telling Shannon to "shh"
