Help with DVD recorders

I'm considering buying a cheap DVD recorder from Argos (LiteON LVW 5115) but I wonder do they work the same as VHS recorders? Is there any problem with watching one channel and recording another? Are there any drawbacks I should be aware of? Thanks for any pointers
