Petrov leaving Celtic?

Bulgaria captain Stilian Petrov is believed to want to leave Celtic - three months after signing a new contract with the Scottish champions. Petrov is already in his 7th year at Celtic and his public show of discontent with Strachan at the end of the Hibs game has added fuel to the fire.
This has lead to an offical statement from the club

"We have received no official transfer request from Petrov at this stage.
"He's only recently signed a new long term contract with Celtic and, clearly, any such request would be rejected."

My worries would be Strachan`s man management abillity and the fact that Bayern are loosing Ballack to Chelsea and they see him as a ready made replacement. If this grows in the coming weeks, and its understood that there is no get-out clause in his new contract, make no mistake he is a quality player, there will be no shortage of bidders.:(

He was linked with Newcastle and Blackburn in January. Could of been just paper speculation though.

the papers also said he was linked with Fulham, wouldn't mind him in the club though

i heard on the radio earlier that he did hand in a request. THe price quoted he could be got for was 7mill euros.

CELTIC Football Club today confirmed that it has turned down a transfer request from midfielder, Stilian Petrov.

A club spokesperson commented: “We can confirm that we have today received an official transfer request from Stilian Petrov. This has been rejected. We now look forward to Sunday’s match.”

I really, really don't want to see him leave. He's a leader at the age of 25 and is only going to improve. I think another team could be getting a bargain with him. I don't care how well Lennon is playing trying to earn a contract, he has to go and Petrov should be made captain.

Well its official now and this worries me. No wonder Stans slapped it in when he see`s the ginger midget building his team around two 30yr olds. Moving him out to the right or up front, hellooooooo, Stan is the future he is the man to be building his team around, not bring in your own mid table players who wont rock the boat. IMO GS is not able to handle big named players at a big club so if they dont conform he ships them out! Then as I said before out with everyone and in with my (GS) players, no matter how mid table type players they are as long as the dont answer back.

Good signing for any team, hope he goes to top 6 or la Liga. Nice of him to sign a contract so Celtic get well paid for him.

I'd say SAF could be looking at buying him, he was interested in buying him before afaik.
