Building a new PC for sound recoring mainly. Looking at Asus and Gigabyte boards on dabs and wondering does anyone have any recommendations for one with nice fast speed? Want P4, 800FSB, DDR2 etc and will be putting in SATA2 hard disks. Graphics need to be on board for the time being as no games will be played on it for now.

First of all scrap the idea of a P4 they are hot and have noisy coolers.

    Whats your budget?

An Asus A8N-VM CSM has a Passive Chipset cooler and is completely silent. It also has Onboard Video and a PCI-Express slot for future upgrades

Also a Zalman CNPS7700-Cu cooler will be silent on 7 volts.

And Athlon X2 3800 is a great CPU, If you dont need Dual core then a Athlon 64 3700 would be a good choice

Crucial Ballistix are great if you want a gig

And OCZ Platinium are great if you want 2 gigs

Budget for board/cpu/ram is about 400-500. Silent coolers look good.

    Well,

    This http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=318311

    This https://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=313691

    And this http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=309659

comes to €493 and would make a great Audio PC

Now if you really want an Intel machine

    The equivelant CPU http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=307540&s=sc

    And Ram http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=301116&s=sc

    Would cost €615:eek:

And thats not including a mobo with integrated video, I couldnt find one on Komplett that supports DDR2.

So you can see the performance/price that AMD offers compared to Intel

    ;)
