Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sudden Wireless Connectivity

    Hello

I am presently on my laptop out in a suburb of Galway city on my laptop.
We have a dial up connection and I only use the wireless internet when I am at college.
I shouldn't have a wireless connection reading but I have.

It says I have a speed of 11Mbs on the "default" wireless network.

It says however that it is a Wireless (Peer-To-Peer) connection.

Is there anyone out there that can explain this to me?

    Thanks in advance

Could just be in ad-hoc mode and talking to itself. yeah i think so too.
Download and run AirSnare and check it out...

Did you make the above post using that connection?

If so then you have stumbled onto someone's unsecured wifi network, follow Karoma's advice and get netstumbler to see what other networks are out there. Thing is is that NetStumbler will only pick up infrastructure networks and not ad-hoc ones. :(

Yep it's an ad hoc network connection. So basically rather than connecting to a router or gateway you are connecting to another PC directly. Be careful as any folder shares you have will become accessible. Also increase risk of being "hacked". Ad Hoc networks have a short range so the PC is prob close to yours. Try and find out whose it is. You could always disable your wireless while u are at home. (Will save your battery power too)
