From reading the coure booklet I'm getting the impression that my four essays for the year are worth 40% and my exams 60% with the two seminar essays being worth 25% and the two tutorial essays 15%.

"250 marks are available for the seminar essays in the continuous assessment process. 750 marks are for the end of term examination and tutorial essays, both on core courses"- so that says seminar essays def 25% yes?

It says something about tutorial essays being 20%, but that's 20% of the remaining 75% percent so that would be.... 15% yeah?

    Confirmation please!

That's certainly what the booklet implies.

But according continuous assesment is supposed to be capped at 25%

TBH I don't know what to think.

    Email the dept?

That's about right, because the CA part of your core courses is not tied to the CA part of your seminars, which are CA in themselves, but are very specific as opposed to general as seen in the core courses. Seminars aren't part of your core course, so the CA element of the core course is different to your seminar.

We were told that our course in credits was divided up as follows (this'll also apply to the M2 section of second year):

    Core course: 7.5 credits.
    Core essay: 2.5 credits
    Seminar course: 5 credits.

That's 15 credits per semester or 30 credits per year and counts for half your total annual credits because you have a second subject.

    Is that ok?

Don't worry Seb dear, I'm an expert at modern Irish history, it's the horseporn renaissance crap that my course courses comprise that means I'm gonna fail. Your quote is safe.

I'm utterly screwed so. Didn't do my first tutorial essay. Never got my first seminar essay back. Did a kick ass second tutorail essay, but handed it up over a week late. Still doing my second seminar essay...

A friend of mine has only done one english essay this year and he figures he's gonna get through it, you're in a better position than a good few people doing essays at all. It'll be grand.

    Then edit it?

Oh, I've been training to be eccentric. All I need now is the money!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭elmyra

I'm practically a luddite. If I had any idea how to edit I would.

    Sebby, don't be cranky.

Editing is this really difficult process of pressing the Edit button at the bottom of your post and changing whatever went wrong. Advanced editing lets you say why... that's strangely fun!

    Ooh, shiny!
