Gorse fire I'd say. Was up the cooley mountains myself today and the gorse brush is like tinder...after a few days like we've had this week with little or no rain, all it takes is some idiot with a fag end.

Looks to be a few different smaller fires with one large one highest up.

Camping this early in the year. I doubt it.

Didnt know there was a specified camping season! Ive camped in that area in December and January. Todays weather was on a par with most summer days so its quite possible that someone could be camping up there

I hope the fire is not too extensive, what could have been the cause?.

    From the indo:
THREE units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were dispatched last night to tackle a gorse fire that swept across the Dublin mountains, writes Louise Healy.

The alarm was raised shortly after 10pm when locals in south Dublin noticed the fire off the Blackglen Road at the foothills of the Dublin mountains.

I hope the fire is not too extensive, what could have been the cause?.

It was probably the combination of Fuel, Oxygen and Heat.

I hope no animals were burnt. Id say the foxes might hjave escaped from going Fwoop!

are they the fabled fire foxes your talking about?

  • Registered Users Posts: 706 ✭✭✭whatsupdoc?

How does a fire start up that high in the mountains at around 10pm?
If people were camping then they must have left something burning.
Unless it was smoldering for a couple of hours.

or it could be people messing about, its a notorious spot for joy riding, car get burned out or abandoned up there. fires are common places up there

Mmm...foxes move and think faster when on fire.

Or when being followed by larger, escaping animals.
