Can only see 3 rock from here. Where is the fire?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

On the Dublin side. Hard to see for sure, but up near Stepaside I think, in the woods somewhere around there.

Anybody cared to ring the fire brigade and find out what the feck is going on?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

I don't mean to be smart, but it is clear what is going on. They are still going. I can see flashing blue lights in the area now too. The fires have moved westwards.

    Gorse fires

    What's a gorse fire?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭Heyes

    What's a gorse fire?

Gorse is a type of plant that basically grows like wild fire. Farmers burn its during the summer months to get rid of it.

So why were the fires so big?
And why did one boardster claim to see the fire brigade around their too?

There was fire brigades there. Gorse is a very dry plant and can get out of control very easily. What happened on the Dublin Mountains is not uncommon.

Most gorse fires are normally produced in a small scale, things must have just gotten out of control that night.

cheers for putting them up. Gorse fires are an annual thing, they should really be able to try and control them, or at least not have so many fires on the go
