Leinster really is full of Munster
    A Munster supporter’s day out

    Kilkenny’s Ian Dowling

When teams are going through a loss of form, the supporters generally stay away. When Munster are given little chance of success- what happens? They rouse the troops and everything is put on hold in order to support their herd.

Given little chance against Leinster in the Heineken Cup semi-final at Landsdown Road, they filled the stadium with a sea of red. The roads around Ballsbridge were thronged with Munster supporters, as they moved to the soon to be demolished rugby headquarters. A carnival atmosphere was erected around the area and with the beautiful sun shining everyone soaked up the occasion.

The passionate Munster side held most of the possession throughout, and each time Leinster got control on play, Munster’s forceful defence allowed them very little space to work. At the final whistle, the game ended in a 30-6 win for Munster.

Munster has once again proved to be a side that shouldn’t be written off so quickly.

While they have yet to win the coveted cup, playing Biarritz on May 20th, might just change that. If any team deserves to win the Heineken Cup- it’s the sea of red from Munster.

    A double celebration for Kilkenny

While Kilkenny may be in the province of Leinster there’s still a strong Munster following here. The legendary Mick Galwey lives here, and of course played with Kilkenny. The big man from Currow, Moss Keane, gives his place of work in Kilkenny. On a private note, Former Rose of Tralee Orla O’Shea is of course from Kilkenny, and a Munster woman. Ian Dowling, former Town’s Cup winner with Kilkenny, and now top Munster player is from the Marble City. The Munster team even held their Christmas party in Kilkenny two years ago. So at the end of the day, plenty of Kilkenny people celebrated Sunday- and not just for the hurling.

Glad to say the Kilkenny man who Leinster over-looked has now helped Munster to the European Cup Final. Don't know if there's much rugby support in Kilkenny, but I hope all of ye will tune in and shout for Munster (even if it's just for the day) and Dowling when the final comes around.
