As the poster above said, it's defiantly possible to get by with a laptop at home. That said, I used a laptop in most of my lectures to take notes, and in the library to read lecture notes/slides and to write and research essays, so they're very handy.

I would ignore the laptop advice of Andrew, as he frequently needs to re-screw the screen of his laptop during lectures.

 13 hours lectures. My God that is nothing.

What do people do with their spare time?

But in all seriousness does that little work undermine BESS as a course?
How do employers view BESS graduates??
Since it's Trinity I presumed that it would be more intense. Maybe that's the secret, more with less....

Eh, it's first year in a Business course that lasts for 4 years. I don't think UCD or UCC have that many more hours either, despite lasting only 3 years.

in first year I had 18, but about 13 isn't that little anyway (for any college). Only science/engineering courses have a lot of hours. You're meant to spend the rest of the time doing the assigned reading etc.

Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

Hi, just looking for more opinions on the BESS course! Filling out my CAO soon and am not entirely sure what direction I want to go with. Favourite subjects are English and Business, and I like the sound of sociology. Was thinking of putting BESS first with the initial intention of a sociology and business degree. Any sort of educated insight is appreciated! Many thanks.

I'm pretty much the same as the poster above me! Have BESS as my first choice as its so diverse and there are a number of areas I'd like to get into (Business, Journalism, Teaching...) My favourite subjects are English and Economics and I also love Spanish, which I can do as an elective! Im also interested in Law too so I might opt for the Introduction to Law module... The points are a bit dodgey for me though..:/

Quick question, is it true you can't go on an international exchange if you do the business and economics degree?

BESS 1st choice on the CAO too. I'm going to cry if I don't get it, literally.
After the open day all I'm thinking bout is how I'm going to manage to find my way from Trinity Hall to the university. :D

I want to do german, any comments?

I am thinking of doing BESS next year and was wondering whether the maths on the course would be difficult for someone doing ordinary level LC even though I find them fairly easy.

What d'you expect to get in maths in the LC?

You should be grand then. The maths has a worse reputation than it deserves. I did ordinary and found BESS maths to be fine.

Thanks, good to know. How would you find the course overall

I really like it. It's got lots of choice so chances are you'll end up liking at least one of the subjects you do, and there's plenty of scope for specialisation. The BESS office is good, in that I've never (nor has anyone I know) had an issue with them (unlike other depts) and the lecturers are all real helpful. It's not too difficult in first year either (well, in retrospect it wasn't) so you'll have plenty of time to make some chums and go out too.

I got a c3 in ordinary and have found the maths relatively easy.

Avoid using the word 'chums' and you'll be grand.
