For anyone interested Alex Grey's website has two tv adverts for 10,000 days available to download. They are both supposed to be compiled from clips from the upcoming Tool video. I'm not sure of the release date for this yet but from the clips it would appear the whole 3d theme of the album artwork will be prevalent in the video also.....

As I expected...after nearly 10,000 listens to 10,000 days, I find the album thoroughly enjoyable to listen to...I am listening to Vicarious, Jambi and The Pot as three stand-alone tracks...

Naturally, Wings For Marie (Pt 1) & 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) as one song...

Similar situation with Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) & Rosetta Stoned and finally,

Intension & Right In Two as one movement also...

    God bless those boys...

I skip lost keys most of the time... sometimes I'll let it go on or skip through the uninteresting bits

does this make me a bad person?

I don't think so, I think that 10,000 days just does not work well as a whole album as thier preivious releases did.

mmm.. could be. Are there any alternate track listing theories yet to spice it up? :)

If someone suggests an obscure math theorem who thinks they could fit it to 10000 days by next tuesday?

Give me some time and I'm sure I can, he usually drums in physics patterns, which is cool.

i think the Wings + VT theory is the only one to arise so far ;)

in other news, i just saw Tool at NovaRock, and it was everything i expected - unbelievable. if i can remember, the setlist included the following songs, tho i cant remember the order. the first two & last 3 are almost certainly in the correct order tho.

    Stinkfist (altered)
    The Pot
    Forty Six & 2
    Schism
    Jambi
    Sober
    Lateralus
    Vicarious
    Aenema

I'm sure there's something to the fact that the linking songs (wings & 10,000 days; Lost Keys & Rosetta) sit in a very coincidental pattern...
Considering each song as 1, except for each linked song as a whole being 2 you get 1,1,2,1,1,2,1,1.
As I said, probably has some point to it, but who knows? Last time it was Fibbonachi (sp?) sequences or something... now what?

edit: actually, just realised I'd left out Viginti Tres.... so that doesn't really work... ah well. :D

Jaysus this thread is still going? Ok as i dont have time to see if this has already been posted heres a tidit of info i found out when scouring the lyrics.

The song 10000 days is about maynards mom, judith marie. She had a stroke and was paralysed for exactly get this, 10000 days before she passed on. Apparently she was a devout christian and refused some medical treatment because of it.

Also the song judith on a perfect circles mer de noms album is similarly theamed.

I knew it was about his mother but didn't know those details.

In seven days and twenty hours I'll be in front of a stage waiting for Tool to come out *pumps fist in air with excitement*

Paris. A friend of mine works in a record store there and got free tickets. He hates Tool so he gave me one (a ticket I mean!) and is offering me a spot on his couch. Nice guy!

    argh, tool were amazing...
    i just felt like posting!
they added the pot half way through the set, on the condition that people would stop smoking for the rest of the gig, cos it was effecting maynards voice.
it's was the best gig ive ever been to...

porn star, i mean this in the nicest way possible, but....YOU ARE A ****. :p
i saw Tool in Austria, they were fantastic. opened with an altered version of Stinkfist

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭porn_star

    teehee!! no offence taken!
It was the best gig ever though.
They opened with lost keys/rosetta..the backrounds were deadly.
Half way through the set Maynard went over to Justin, then Adam then Danny and then disapeared off stage.
He came back on saying they were gonna do something special, but the crowd had to do something for him. They played the pot on the condition that people would stop smoking for the rest of the gig, cos it was effecting his voice. I was kinda glad cos I kept getting smoke blown into my face. Some girl lit up like 20 minutes later and I "accidently" thumped her into the back...not hard...but just enough to say, but the ****ing fag out! :p
I've been reading reviews from the shows they played after prague and that seems to of been the start of it, someones coming out and doing an official announcement at the start of the shows saying maybard is pleading with them not to smoke at the gigs.
but it was an unreal gig....pfft...they didn't have any girl tshirts though...so i bought a boys small one instead :D
    they had tool knickers though...:p

    nah
    it was quite nice tbh
    i dont smoke
and it wasnt the nicest having it blown into my face at the start all the time
and id rather the singer of my favourite bands voice being ok, then someone having their ****ty fix.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

yeah, I can see your point.. I'd just rather the singer of my favourite band wasn't such a tool :)

*puts cigarette out on maynards tongue*

saw them in London two weeks ago, the same one you were at smackbunnybaby. Great gig but not as good as the ozzfest gig they played over here. I just didnt feel that they were as into it as they could have been. They sounded and played amzingly though. It was too short though, only about 80 mins.I think if maynard asks people to stop smoking they should out of respect. Smokers are ignorant enough as it is. Hopefully they will play over here and the fact that we have the smoking ban may persuade them.

when it comes to "the pot" people seem to make exceptions over here at gigs i've found :D

Went to see Tool in Paris a couple of nights ago. They opened with "Lost Keys"/"Rosetta Stoned" from 10,000 Days. "Lost Keys" was much better than on the album because there were no vocals, the whole "Doctor, we have a situation..." thingy annoys me slightly but live they just did that droning feedback. It was very cool. Next they played a nice version of "Stinkfist" with an extended bit in the middle.

Maynard seems to be having trouble with smoke and his voice on this tour, he's been asking the crowds all along the tour to please stop smoking and he was getting seriously pissed off with the French crowd. "Forty Six & 2", "Jambi", a noisy improvisation and "Schism" followed "Stinkfist". "Schism" was different to normal, the breakdown in the middle was much faster and they built it up into a storm of Tool freakout before breaking back into the song again. Another noisy improvisation and then a surprise as they played "Opiate" with some other guy singing with Maynard (new lyrics and extended music, very very cool). Then they played "Right in Two" which was one of the highlights of the evening, Justin's pitchshifted bass sounds much live than on the record. "Lateralus" was next and then they sat down on the stage and stared at the crowd for a while.

They got back up and played "Vicarious" and afterwards said they'd be back in November (hopefully this means they might play Dublin) and then finished off with "Aenema". Maynard changed the lyrics at the end of each "**** all your..." part to "**** all you smokers and **** your short memories." It was really funny as the French just didn't get it. The gig ended and they were throwing drumsticks and drumskins into the crowd. Maynard started lobbing full bottles of water into the crowd and stormed off, he seemed really pissed with the smoking. Cool gig, not quite as good as the Ozzfest one here but probably slightly better than the SFX show. Unfortunately no sign of "The Pot" nor "Sober" but thems the ways the dice fall.
