Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thierry Henry has been named Footballer of the Year for a record third time by the Football Writers' Association.

Henry, 28, is the first player in 59 years of the FWA award to receive the accolade three times.

This season Henry has broken the club's all-time goalscoring record and led Arsenal to their first European Cup final against Barcelona in Paris.

The striker won the FWA award in 2003 and 2004, with last year's honour going to Frank Lampard.

The Arsenal captain will receive his latest award at the FWA dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, in London, on Thursday 11 May.

Chelsea's John Terry came second, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney third and Liverpool's Steven Gerrard fourth in the votes cast by the country's football writers.

Sir Stanley Matthews, Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes and Gary Lineker all won the FWA award twice.

FWA chairman Paul Hetherington said: "Henry is a deserving winner in a season when there have been several outstanding candidates, such as Terry, Rooney and Gerrard.

"Henry's achievement ranks him up there as the greatest player in the 59-year history of the award."

Gerrard was named the players' Player of the Year and collected his award on Sunday.
Hopefully not for the last time, but I suppose that depends on the outcome of May 17.

Fully deserved anyway. Best player in premiership history? Best in English league history? Quite possibly. Well done Thierry.

I wouldn't even put him for best premiership player, what about Vieira, Keane, Berkjamp, Scholes? All those players played at the highest level for their club a lot longer than Henry has.

Has Bergkamp had the same impact at Arsenal? No. I do take your point about Viera, Keane and Scholes though.

Yeah, best in premiership history is pushing it, what about Mark Walters? But seriously, he's not even the top scorer in premiership history.

I actually half expected Shearer to be handed one of the awards in a kind of "lifetime achievement" situation.

He would'nt be far off. If you look at the goals that are scored when he's on the pitch a huge proportion go though him at a vital stage of the move, thats not a fluke.

No I agree but Henry mostly carries Arsenal, Bergy had his best days in great teams. Not meaning to put down his achievement at all but I just don't think he has done as much at Arsenal as Henry has/is. Plus he is still 28, a few years left.

Shearer there is another player for the title of prem great.

    Well done Henry.

Hopefully he will get the golden boot and a CL winners medal to go with it.
