Right the story is that Galway is the singles capital of Ireland. Or so the CSO office figures from the last census state. So after returning after a number years ago from Dublin I to figured it wouldn’t be so bad!

How wrong I was! Everyone is either married or with the cost of buying a house have no or little disposal income. This had lead to be observing no one going out and socialising and therefore you get to meet no one else and your social circle declines due to natural progression of people moving on or even out of the locality.

Long & Short of it is I’m intending starting a ‘Social Club’ for want of a better catchphrase. Meet new people for pints or getting groups of like minded people on outings what ever just expand the ‘circle’ of friends.

I have to keep this short as I’m already boring people to tears!

What you think people is Galway people still holding on to romantic ideas of meeting people in a pissed up environment where you can’t hear the other person speaking! Or can we move on (It’s not a huge leap!).

Ask yourself single haven’t met anybody interesting for either romance or just get a new buddy. Would you like to!

As for the original thread I don’t have any suggestions as Galway people seem to want to talk to everybody from outside rather than talk to ourselves!!

    Am I Wrong?

Let me know would you join!

    Yes or No!

    Cairde

I'd assume 18 and up .. :D its not bebo after all ...

I'd be interested in meeting up for a game of pool (which I usually do with a mate anyways and a pint ... others are always welcome) or bowling or similar .. problem a lot of the time I find these days is .. other people have moved away .. others do have the it takes a week or two to organise something ... going on ... I'd be in the 26 - 26 age group ... muppetkiller is similar ...

I dont know where you get the impression that theres no one going out in Galway any more.
Head for the Prom on a nice evening, check out the soccer pitches, go out any night over the weekend, the greyhound racing is packed most nights it is on.
There are also a few threads in this forum regarding bi weekly soccer or something of the like, could be a good place to meet some people and expand your circle of acquaintances. Theres probably a few threads either here or in the poker forum regarding people who play sociable games now and again.
If you get going to one or two of these things you'll meet a few like minded people who may be up for other activities like going out.

Is there any swinging involved in this? Preferably metal ones.

    Social club? Sure why not?

OP, you should make a poll out of this. Look in the advanced edit options, I think.

So guys whats the plan ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

As Cairde hasn't come back to us I'm gonna throw a line out.

A pool tournament in Eglinton Snooker Centre on Saturday afternoon with follow up pints/cups of tea in Sally's or Dew Drop Inn?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,199 ✭✭✭muppetkiller

D'oh can't make it this Saturday but next week suits me perfect..
Dew Drop is a good spot too for the Black Stuff :D

    True, they are very attractive!

Only Cairde can add a poll, or maybe SyxPak.

Pub sounds good, with or without pool. If we take Sally's we can do both but if weather is great Dew drop's the spot really. Is everyone ok with Saturday afternoon sometime for a few?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,594 ✭✭✭forbairt

You may have to PM an admin to turn on poll editing abilities.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while!

But as I see as with most threads they descend in to the usual tit-for-tat jokes/insults.

If I was to organise a beers/Bowling/Quasar night who would be up for it???

    Suggest a date, time, place.
See how many people say yes (unconditionally).
