Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What Wireless Card to use?

I have just changed to Netopia 3347NWG router (Eircom). Using Windows 2000 Prof on internet access. Other computer I am trying to route to uses Windows 98. I tried to install a USB adaptor on the Win 98 computer but it would not install. I know that there is a problem with 98 up to version 2 but this is version 4.1.

What network card should I buy, I live next to a PC world outlet

    Would this work?

Any help would be much appreciated

What version of 98 do you have? Windows 98 had a few issues with USB support. Some devices will only work with Windows 98 Second Edition.

First of all step away from the shelf with the belkin products on it... (Phew, disaster averted), the only card worth its salt is a linksys one like this one.

    And even then had problems

    Thanks Munster & Nutjob,

I had bought the Belkin before I read your posts. Windows would not recognise it as new hardware on 98SE, I loaded up XP, still would not recognise it.

I brought it back to PC World and changed it for a Linksys USB adaptor, works like a treat, recognises all Eircom settings except for the encription code, excellent signal. Lesson if you are using a Netopia WIFi Router, use the Linksys adaptor.

    Thanks a million

    Brendan

A better lesson is just never to buy Belkin products. ;)

Again our calls for a Belkin bashing forum fall on deaf ears ;)

BTW OP I think the reason the Linksys works well is the strength of its radio compensates for the rubbish one in the netopia.

Have to say that I have been using the Belkin pre-n mimo router and pcmcia card for months without any problems.
Cracking range and signal through thick walls.

Count yourself amongst the lucky few so. In general Belkin products perform poorly considering they are a big brand name.

The only Belkin Product I have which is any good is one of those anti-powersurge extension leads!

I have to say, I use the netopia wireless router too and have no problems with it anywhere in my house (or garden).
