Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What with the endeavours of the Arse and Boro this year in Europe, added to the mighty Liverpool last year, are we seeing the beginnings of a new golden era for English teams in European football?

personally i dunno, I defo think that English teams have learned how to play effectively again in Euro competitions, but also the failings of teams like Madrid, who were once a major force etc etc are making it slightly easier to progress. No disrespct tho to Arsenal and Boro, who have done really well, and best of luck to them

These things seem to go in eras, 1977-1984 was almost totally dominated by English teams then after the ban kicked in it was the Italians who dominated first then the Spanish with interventions by other sides from time to time. I would'nt presume a swing back to English sides just yet maybe if its similair next year!

Just seeing better foreign managers managing better foreign players. Since the PL began the standard of foreign players in the league has risen quite a lot. Arsenal only played 2 english players in the CL this season. Pool 3???? Chelsea and Utd probably about the same.

The demise of Real? There were 2 spanish teams in the semis so hardly any demise in the standard of Spanish football. The italian teams arent in massive decline like Sky wouild have you believe just the 2 best teams have aging players who will be replaced and they will be there or thereabouts again next season.

It took about seven years for the English teams to readjust to European football following their ban in the eighties. Bar the odd triumph in the CWC, which was a joke of a tournament really, there was nothing to write home about.

The last five to seven years they have really begun to do well again. Five different English sides have reached the semis of the CL in this time.

I suppose it dismisses the myth that the quality of the English game is poor.

that fact that the english game is innundated with overseas players makes it more of a european standard lets see how well they do in the world cup before we hail english football as the worlds standard

The subject was the english game though, not english players. Thats like saying you cant get a true reflection of how good barce are unless you take out Ronaldinho, Messi etc. What about Real Madrid? the only thing spanish about them is a decent goalkeeper and a half-assed defence.

i agree the top european leagues are a poor reflection on the international standard of their countries, seeing as most team (particulary in the UK) are filled with overseas players
