Going to buy one of these to put in the front room, in the case of the Mac/Xbox it will replace the DVD player I currently have, whereas the media sender (here)
will supplement the existing set up. My thoughts are below, please correct if wrong!

Mac - will play everything, front row looks good, can hold content, very slick
Xbox - Looks good, gaming functions etc. Don't have/want media center PC so can't access music on other PC(?), won't play divx etc.
Sender - Do they work at all, if so, how well?

It will be used to play downloaded movies/tv, music from the PC upstairs etc. Which is best?

Or, if you're adventureus, get an original Xbox, cheap enough, then add a modchip and bigger HDD. Can be run over a LAN too.

from a bit of research on the web this looks like a ball ache to tbh, modding, installing, configuring etc. I don't really have time for or inclanation :( . That Kiss player looks good, does anyone know if it actually works, or should I push the boat out and get the Mac?

Yes, it's not very straight forward, whether you want to install a modchip or "softmod" it. Not a media centre out of the box, but I'm keen on fiddling with it! :)

That KiSS machine looks the biz.
There are dearer versions with HDD recorders, though for some reason only have a DVD Player, not a DVD Recorder...

Can't find physical dimensions for the DP-600 on the web (this is important, long story), but I think I'll go for that as I'll save €500 on the Mac Mini which could be put to good use elsewhere - also the DP-558 doesn't have HDMI support.

As a Xbox360 owner, I'd suggest you check out the noise level of the machines - drives and fans aplenty - before deciding to buy one. As a DVD player it's a noisy bugger and as a games console it's worse. Nice machine otherwise.

That Kiss player looks nice. I thank you for the link but my wallet won't if I get one *L*
It's a fair bit cheaper with Pixmania if anyone's interested:
