I was just watching episode 1 series 1 (Children of the God's AFAIK) and when they go through the stargate they have ice crystals on them when they come out. I seem to recall the same in the movie.
When did they stop using this? In the modern episodes that never happens.

They stopped it after the pilot ep. Ostensibly because they tuned up the gate but really because it cost money that they could save by not doing it. Reappeared in an episode a few years later when the gate went wonky.

Tuned up the gate? How did they improve on Ancient technology after a year of studying it?

    Carter fixed it.

If you must know, it was because after millennia of solar drift, the co-ordinates from the Abados cartouch were out of alignment and thats what caused the ice effect.

Carter wrote a program that accounted for solar drift and thus "fixed it".

And they all lived happily ever after!

    That explanation is only so-so

Next question. In the 1st episode the snake-eyes glow red (on the jaffa masks) and then fade when the jaffa dies. Later though you see jaffa with unlit masks, is it ever explained why this is?

That'd be the batterys. Those masks are awful on the juice.

Its called funding. Jebus, if you want someone to explain every little plot hole, go watch star trek. Us star gate fans arent like that. Go read User 4701 or whatever's post on this forum with questions along the same lines...

The fact is, Stargate doesnt take itself seriously enough to have to answer these delicate plot hole questions.

So, in closing, the simple answer is their budget couldnt cover it. That or "Wizards did it".

As if common sense couldn't have figured this one out.

A simple - budget limitations - would have done it. I missed many of the early episodes and so did not see many of the story-formers, so I do not know what is budget and what is plot.

All these plot holes can be explained by: "They're all speaking English, WTF? Now why are they switching back to Gou'ald!?!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

    Yes.

Maybe Anubis just ran out of red bulbs, there's hardly an infinite amount in the universe...:D

To answer your other question: Methinks they speak Goa'uld to each other and switch back for the humans benefit. Sometimes they do speak in Goa'uld to humans, but when your angry, don't you swap back to your native tongue?
