just to update have since joined galway city gym and wont ever look back. If you want to do weights, no bull****, it's the only place worth going.

They have an extensive free weights range and many many machines!! Including a proper full on leg press amongst other not so commonly seen machines! I love the atmosphere, it's just train hard and carry on, guys of all shapes and sizes train in there and while there is some sheer beasts, their more than willing to help to spot or give advice! Great gym, great crowd, get in!

I am arriving at the end of the month to live in the Burren, not far from Galway, so will be coming in to the City from the Clare side through Oranmore. I am looking for the best gym in Galway - not interested in a pool, or heavy weight-lifting, just want to keep fit and muscular so some weight-lifting is necessary. I have looked through the really helpful posts here on this site and on this thread but given the hard times I was not sure if all the clubs mentioned still exist. Is the Olympic Gym good? What about the one mentioned in the Quality Inn near Oranmore? Any good? If there is a really outstanding gym somewhere, I will travel. I am looking for somewhere clean and well-maintained, as well as well-equipped.
Many thanks for any help. Really appreciated!:)

olympic is largely dominated by our polish brothers. galway city mainly irish, and kingfisher gyms, mainly pussies haha joke :P

maybe NRG, bit of a posers gym in some respects and not too many there got anything to pose about but its clean thats for sure and pretty well furnished.

Galway city gym is just over 400 per year(think its 440), and if your a student its much cheaper.

What are you looking for in a gym????

Hi, I'm looking at joining a gym but not sure yet which one. just wondering if anyones a member of the Oranmore lodge gym, Is it any good? I mean the price is good IMO. Also looking at club vitae in the Maldron, Oranmore, sent them an email asking about membership prices.

Or the raheen woods gym in athenry think its called tranquillity, heard its supposed to be good.

I was a member of NRG for 2 years but its a bit out of my way and over my budget!!!

Heres the oranmore lodge one http://www.oranmorelodge.ie/leisure-club. The pictures look very outdated!!!
