Cam home today to find my broadband very slugish, test the speed on one of the irish speed sites & it says that is running as fast as a 256k prduct, even though I'm on the BT 2mb package, is anyone else having this problem? I rang BT & selected their call back service but have yet to hear anything back (no doubt I won't)

YES in rathfarnham at the moment.

Connects to the Terenure exchange (services about 100,000 peeps)

Like using isdn :( I thought it was a temporary thing but it's quite frustrating now!

Down to a crawl here (Wexford) too.

PS. I always say a decade of the rosary whenever I hear of anybody ringing BT customer services. :)

Eircom in Shankill is really slow too :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭Blaster99

Eircom's ADSL has been bad all day so it's most likely an eircom problem. I'd say calling BT is a waste of time.

Eircom in Bray is crawling along too
Been slow for hours now. about 600kbs and 600 pings too :(

Are you sure about that? 100k seems like a huge number for one exchange...

and BT broadband is crap here for me also.

YES in Ballycullen too..its sooo frustrating!! I work as a Mod on another site and it consistently drops from 6pm-9pm. Peak times obviously. Connected to Ballyboden exchange. Put in a call but was told it was due to traffic, ths is NOT good enough esp as they have no plans to increase capacity.

It's a big exchange, not one of the BAS (summerhill, dolphins barn and stillorgan)

It looks after quite a few areas, especially rathfarnham being quite a big one.
It caters for that many people, doesn't mean they all have broadband ;)

Same in loughlinstown too, my upload speed is fine but the download is at 208kbps:mad:

Aren't BT just leasing the lines from Eircom anyway?? Surely Eircom problem then???

got a call from Bt earlier, we ent through various tests, rebooting etc, no joy so yer man is logging it with eircom...in fairness he was fairly helpful but judging by all the people with the crap service it's a bigger eircon problem, at least I can rest easier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,231 ✭✭✭✭Sparky

I wonder why nearly the majority of Dublin is down to a snails pace. What would cause it?
    Bad hardware?
Has a few cables been unplugged? :D

From rubbish to dire. I'm now getting 28k speed. Might need to root out the 56k modem!

On Eircom BB out of Terenure aswell. Ping times 700ms+ to anywhere. Basically not usable. Since this is a multi-provider issue I'd expect there's some hardware issue somewhere in the Eircom network. Hopefully Eircom get it sorted it soon (though obviously doubtful anything will be done tonight).

Putting this down to traffic is BS - its just your standard helpdesk idiot who doesn't know what else to say. I'm sure theres a smart engineer somewhere in Eircom who recognises a serious problem.

EDIT: Was writing when Ghost posted. Thanks for the info Ghost, please let us know if you hear anything else. It's very typical Irish internet, unless you know someone in the company, you hear nothing. You'd think someone would have posted a service announcement with an ETA on a repair.
