    im living in an area of cork that isnt serviced by anyone. but i did a line check on magnet and it says that they can provide us with broadband. i know they use a different technology that travels a further distance from the exchange.

    i just wanna know how accurate there line check is because up until a month ago my home line was passing the smart line check system.

    my parents dont want to have to change phone number which means the only way to get broadband is by getting an extra line in. so i wanna make sure that i will be able to get magnet before getting an extra line put in

    Have a look at the threads below...

    Basically if you're connected to a DSL enabled exchange, magnet will tell you they can provide you with BB. This is regardless of whether your line can actually support it or not.

    label: If they can't provide you with their full service, it means that they are just reselling eircoms BB. So if your line fails the eircom test, they will not be able to support you.

    If you ask them this on the phone they will tell you they can because they're using ADSL2+...but if their using ADSL2+ they can provide you with their full service. goto label;

    well thats a pile of knob! everytime there is even a slight window of opportunity to get BB it gets slammed shut like digiweb and other wireless providers!

    well they say they can offer me 2MB BB which i guess means they cant provide me after all!

    oh ya thanks for the helpful info. wish magnet would actually say this on their site to stop me wasting my time and wasting their time

    Does Smart's line checker actually fail you or does it say that you may not be able to get it? The latter means you may not get the full speed but you probably can get a service of some sort. If Smart has enabled the exchange, they're the best bet by far.

    this is what is said when i did the smart line check - Based on our current data, your phone line is not currently broadband capable. This data is updated monthly so please try again next month.

    im living just north of the city and quite close to the churchfield exchange 4 /5km maybe. problem is im living in the country so it wouldnt be a profitable area for eircom.

    actaully when i did the magnet line check it says i can get all their services. sorry i think i said they could only give me the 2MB package. the thing is is that my parents want to keep eircom for the phone side of things and so we will have the same number. but now magnet have a package that allows you to do this which im happy about.

    has anybody had any experience with this magnet package? its called magnet base http://www.magnet.ie/packages/base.shtml

    thanks for the help
