eircom released ADSL Bitstream Service Industry Process Manual V10 today.

    What's changed?
The following sections of the ADSL Bitstream Service Industry Process Manual version 10. have been revised in comparison to version 9.0 of the document:
    Section Change
1.2 Product Speeds updated and Bitstream Connect added as per Jan ’06 upgrades and product introduction.

2.10.1 Trigger Program removed as it is no longer applicable

3.4.2 Contact Details updated with reference to Amber
3.4.5.1 Steps for Revised Amber Processes Included.
3.4.5.6.3 Explanation on the relevance of contact details for Amber Non-
    Standard (Provide Contact Details) Provides.

    Amber programme details:
    Revised Amber Provide Order Process:
Amber lines “may” be suitable for the Bitstream products listed on U.G. There are two types of "Amber" orders:

    • "Amber - Non-Standard Delivery (Provide Contact Details)"
These Amber orders are accepted on a best endeavour basis. These orders requiring a Customer Premises Appointment can be placed on the UG for lines that need to be brought within the standards of the Bitstream products. These orders will involve technical intervention from an eircom technician, involving contact with the end customer. An outage will be required on the customers PSTN service to bring the line within standards of the product. This outage will be arranged with the end customer by the eircom technician and they will verify when the outage is completed.

    • "Amber - Non-Standard Delivery"
These Amber orders are accepted on a best endeavour basis but will not involve technical intervention from an eircom technician and will involve no customer outage. A provide order can be placed on U.G. for an Amber line, however, the order will be treated as non-standard, i.e. ability to provide service on Amber lines will be on a best endeavour basis. Service provision of Amber orders will be outside standard service delivery targets. The main process points are outlined below.

    • U.G. Pre-qual order must return an one of the two Amber results outlined above with a list of the products available. ADSL Bitstream Service Industry Process Manual V10 05/05/06 19

    • The appointment will be pre-booked using U.G..
    • The AS enters the order on the U.G. Depending on the Amber result returned the AS may be requested to enter accurate Contact name/address details at order entry stage, (i.e. for "Amber - Non-Standard Delivery (Provide Contact Details)"; order contact details are required), as these will be required by the eircom technician to contact the end customer to arrange an outage on the PSTN service. If possible a mobile number for the end customer should be included. The order will be rejected if the Contact Details are not supplied for "Amber - Non-Standard Delivery (Provide Contact Details)" orders. "Amber - Non-Standard Delivery" orders do not require contact details.

    • U.G. flags to the AS that it is a non-standard Amber order/line.
    • When the Amber provide order is accepted by eircom then the provide order process flows.
    • For "Amber - Non-Standard Delivery (Provide Contact Details)" only
    • The eircom technician will contact the end customer to arrange the PSTN outage between Day 0 and the Appointment date. The eircom technician will carry out the necessary work to bring the line within the standards of the product. The Bitstream order will then complete as normal.
    • If there is a delay in this work being completed, WOTM will provide an estimate of order delivery date to the AS and when the work is completed the order will complete as normal.
    • If the work cannot be completed in the short term the AS will be asked by WOTM to cancel the amber provide order. The AS/AS Agent can cancel the order at anytime before order completion as per normal provides process.

    • Notes/Assumptions:
    - If service cannot be provided at that time the AS will be asked to cancel the current Bitstream order.

Interesting bit on pg 58 too:
If the subscriber currently has no telephone service on the line (for instance they ring to find out whether a new premise that they are moving to could have Bitstream service), you can use a code called the 'Line Interface' to pre-qualify the line. - Search the Bitstream Line Interface Address Information (BLIAI) provided

Do you read this to mean that they may may now activate a line
that syncs at lets say 256k or even 128k even though their
    entry level product is 1Mb?
I know that Esat have installed lines on similar terms to people who could not receive eircom.
No guarantee of service, but stable once dropped down in speed.

Of course, it could just mean that they can leave you waiting 6 months :-(

Hope this suggests those of us beyond the reach of current limits
have something to look forward to.
I'd be over the moon even to get a 64k DSL product :-)

They've lowered the threshold but it's still high, like 1Mbps high.

From what I've heard that database is useless. Although things could of changed since then.

Niallb , I'd say its 256k which is the minimum guaranteed speed for RADSL bitstream (the 1 and 2 mbit packages) and you would pay the 1mbit price
