Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A great weekend last weekend, winning one game and coming so close in another. Can we turn over Essex on Sunday. Eoin Morgan may be playing for Middlsex (hopefully not). Trent Johnson is named despite having a broken finger.

C&G Trophy, Chelmsford: Essex 193-2 (37 overs) bt Ireland 192 (43 overs) by eight wickets
    Scorecard

Alastair Cook celebrated his England call-up by powering Essex to victory over Ireland in the C&G Trophy.

The opener stroked 12 boundaries in his 91, and put on 163 with Grant Flower (61) as the hosts eased to their target of 193 for the loss of two wickets.

Earlier, Ryan ten Doeschate took 4-49 as the Irish were dismissed for 192, Andre Botha hitting 64, but Pakistan star Shahid Afridi made only seven.

Ronnie Irani fell for a duck in reply but Cook made sure it mattered little.

Ireland found themselves firmly on the back foot on 20-3 by the end of the sixth over as Tony Palladino and Andre Adams got the ball to swing and seam.

Eoin Morgan and Botha cautiously rebuilt the innings by adding 79 in 22 overs before Morgan became the first of ten Doeschate's victims.

Afridi pulled off-spinner James Middlebrook for six from the first ball he received but holed out to square-leg three balls later.

Botha and the tail provided some respectability for the Irish, whose hopes were boosted when Irani was bowled by John Mooney.

Cook had a few anxious moments early on but he was soon producing fluent drives and received valuable support from Grant Flower to extinguish any thoughts of a shock defeat.
