Parents have a 03 Mitsubishi with 65k km on the clock that needs to have the clutch replaced. They bought it second had in feb 04 of the local Mitsubishi dealer and it still has a sticker on the back window proclaiming a 3 year\100k km warranty. Should the manufacturer’s warranty still cover the cost of replacing the clutch or would the 3 year warranty only have covered untill the end of 05 even if it was registered at the end of 03?

Its 3 years from the cars first date of registeration. Have a look at the log book and see the exact date the car was registered you should be covered and don't take any sh*t from them saying a clutch is a serviceable part and that you burnt it out yourself from bad driving or whatever. Its under warrenty they have to replace it.

The 3 year warranty runs for 3 years from the date of first registration. That said, I don't think that the clutch would be covered.

Agree 100% clutch should be covered

Toyota paid for 2x clutches on our avensis without asking any questions, despite on the second time it was 20k and 1 year out of warranty.

That said if the clutch is slipping due to excessive wear rather than a fault with the clutch itself they may be less anxious to cover it.

Were the two clutches you had replaced both faulty?

Clutch, like brakes are a serviceable part so are not normally covered by warranty's offered by main dealers - either new or second hand. Worth a shot, but more often than not it wont be covered for normal wear and tear, unless there is an underlying fault causing the failure/wear.

Yes, neither were slipping. First time the car was impossible to get into and take out of gear without pulling hard on the gearlever, second time there you had to squash the pedal into the floor before you could engage.

Based on that, I'd imagine that, whereas the clutch is covered, the lining isn't.

I'd say so. A dedicated driver could burn the lining out in an hour.
