    Secure? I have a netopia router with eircom. I want to make sure people that live in my area cant use my broadband.


    I sent out loads of searchs and could'nt find a thread on this problem, so sorry if this question has been asked before!

    First off , you need to access your routers settings , in here change the name of the basic network to a name of your choice , for instance most leave the unit at the default name which could be Eircom , or 3com or whatever .
    Then set the unit to Not broadcast the name , this stops the link being easily snooped by anyone.

    Next , set up MAC filtering and input the MAC addresses for all your wireless devices ,
    The idea here is that only those devices can now use your network. if you get new devices you can add them later.

    And last , but not least , enable encryption , and dont forget to write down the key , you will need it for all your devices.
