Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Advice needed - 8mm cine film (Telecine)

    Hi

I'm returning to Ireland in the next few months and need to get some advice (as I can't source directly on this except from what I can find on the net) regarding 8mm cine film transfer to MiniDV.

I have a box of about 70 assorted size reels of 8mm cine film, mostly historical footage/records taken by my father over a period of 30 years. They've been in storage and I want to transfer them to MiniDV so that I can edit them on Final Cut Pro myself. I know I can send them to a place like the Video Copy Centre but it would work out ridiculously expensive. I'm just wondering if perhaps it is possible to rent a telecine machine in Ireland and if its expensive or too technical a process to do without special training? I realise its an ambitious task but I need to transfer them before they deteriorate. I think the best approach is to do them in blocks, starting with the oldest ones.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks

theres another thread around here somewhere(for you to find)..
i basically explained how you can film a decent projection with a decent camera and youre grand..
    telecine will be stupidly expensive.
    good luck.

Thanks for the link to the Irish Super8 site but I couldn't access it from here - its sometimes difficult to get access to sites outside China.

No matter, after searching the forum I couldn't find that thread as suggested here, so I did a search for flicker free projection transfer and found another forum with lots of info.

    Thanks for the suggestions. :)
