First off, you need to find out if the car is pre-wired. If it is then there is a lead in the boot. (bring to a garage and ask them- tell them you interested in buying one!!!) (important because they have different pin connectors)

    You have two options

    1)BMW changer
2)aftermarket job - will need adaptor (connects2) and changer (usually sony t69)

dont think you will get either setup for less than €200 though. Things arent for nothing. (check places on the net(uk) for prices- mazing how much it varies)

Try ebay , always some on there. just a case of searching hard!!

BMW CD Changers are made by Alpine - search ebay for this term also

I bought a cd-changer for my e46 3series from this company in the UK,
    comes with the adapter cable.

you can also buy the adapter seperately if you want.
the factory cable in the boot is a small rectangle pin connection about 15MM x 5mm and the sony cd-changer which this company sell is a round connection about 20mm dia.

P.S. If you already have an apple Ipod, apple to a dension ICE link cable which plugs into the back of the Bmw radio and you can put you ipod in the small glove box right of the drivers wheel if you what. you can control the ipod from the radio like a normal cd changer.
    about 150 euro i think from www.dension.com or http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/irlstore.woa/6284041/wo/D446za0kJhvL2Sd6ZEv1IBjsv61/3.PSLID?mco=9465C9ED&nplm=TD136
