Good point; last years X05 was on in October, so that would be a nice time to take the wind out of sony's sails, but while a game like Ninja Gaiden would be a good one, I think they'd need something like Halo 3 (as in, a solid date and playable demo which was very impressive) to distract people from buying.. tbh the only way MS could do serious damage to the ps3 launch (besides trying to have a steady supply of hw and big selection of sw) is by launching Halo 3 and/or GTA4 on the same day as the PS3 and that aint gonna happen!

Everybody knows the xbox is the way to go if you want Halo. If they've decided that they want a PS3 and not a 360 then they've already decided they don't want Halo. MS need to lure Playstation gamers, not just consolidate their own fanbase. More details about GTA4 on the 360 would be good. Maybe an exclusivity arrangement on a franchise like Pro Evolution Soccer. Or imagine the PS3 launching with MGS4 and a trailer for MGS5 on 360 appears.

If they want to make a dent in the playstation fanbase they need to steal away some bread and butter playstation games. Although a price drop could also go a long way of course. Normally I'd have said plus or minus 100 euro isn't that big a deal, the PS2 sold great despite being most expensive. But when you get to the stage that the PS3 is twice, maybe even three times the price of the competition then it's going to have an impact.

yeah, a price drop will help MS and I'd be surprised if one didn't happen before the ps3 launch, but you're right, to take the gleam off Sony they need to show that Sony has nothing to offer (besides its 1st party), MGS, PES and GTA were all key titles for Sony before and at least MGS will be again; If MS was able to get, as you say, exclusivity on PES or a release sate for MGS shortly behind the Ps3 launch, that would be a huge move.
There won't really be any single game that can cut down Sony besides the above three, if MS had managed to get GTA first, even by a week or two, that would make all the difference (hasn't PES launched on the PS2 a week or so before the rest since it was made for Xbox and PC?)
