Ireland is well on target for Minister Dempsey's Target for being second last in Europe. In fact, holiday time! We're there already! We have consistently beaten the rest of Europe (apart from Greece) at bucking the growth trends.

    Broadband study highlights two-speed Europe

New member states slow in applying broadband access measures to support competition

New member states, which have yet to apply effective access measures, are falling behind in broadband adoption creating a two-speed Europe, the latest Broadband Scorecard shows. ECTA’s quarterly report, which tracks broadband competition and take-up across the EU, finds that in January 2006 broadband take-up was just 2.4% in Slovakia and 2.6% in Poland compared with 13.3% in Estonia and 12.8% in Malta – the highest performing of the new member states.

Here are the 10 'poor' countries ranked in descending order in their 'own' table , the not effective ones ya know.

    CEEtable.jpg

We rank just above Latvia 5.9% and Hungary 6.1% with 6.7%

LITHUANIA has passed us now 6.8% but thank **** the Greeks are still there at 1.5% to look worser than we are, we should send Dempsey off to a long conference in Greece starting now and lasting until after the next election .

Full stats here for 25 countries .

The EU15 average shows 18% of DSL lines being delivered via LLU versus 2% in Ireland.

The countries with the highest broadband penetration (Netherlands, Sweden, Finland) are the countries with the highest percentage of DSL lines delivered via LLU.
