Training a dog to hens

I have a springer spaniel here, and we recently got some hens - they're penned in but the dog is going mad for them, and I know that one of these days the gate is going to be left open. The dog is young enough - any tips on how to train him to leave them alone?

Bring him in to the pen on a lease with you. Allow him loads of time to adjust. After a few weeks he will probably get bored of them.
