does anyone know what the symptoms are that the air conditioningis in need of a re-charge? Mine just doesnt seem right, hard to explain. I'm getting some cold air coming ut of the vents on the door sills that clear the side windows (although maybe its meant to do that to clear the windows) even when heating is on high.

Old gas means the cold isn't very cold. I suspect thats a design fact rather than a flaw. Is it the same on both sides?

Yeah seems to be. It's not a lot of air rather than something like a draft comign under a door at home. It may well just blow cold to clear the side windows all the time. it just seemed odd that the air con /climate control was keeping the car at a certain temp but the door were blowing cold.

The cold definately blows cold as on a hot day when the sun is really shineing theres a button with a sun on it that keeps the car really cold and blows loads of cold air. There is a bit of a smell for about 10 seconds when the cold air con is used at first though.

If its not mentioned in the manual then its likely its not meant to work like that. Perhaps something in ventilation isn't right, installed incorrectly etc. causing this. On a couple of cars I've had similar problems that the garage has been able to correct.

If it was on one side I'd say a control flap/rod was broken...hmmmm

    Whats the car?

It could be the Pollen filter into the cabin needs to be changed. If you turn the fan on full speed are you getting a blast of air of just a "draft"? Might not be a/c.

if it does blow cold air when you want it to from the other vents it's certainly not needing gas.
