Got this just there while reading this thread!

Fatal error: Unable to connect to memcache server in /includes/class_datastore.php on line 247

    Search seems to be back?

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,312 ✭✭✭✭Esel

OK, now that 'Search' and 'New Posts' seem to be fixed at last, we deserve to be told what the problem actually was!

At last, Boards can be moved from Intensive Care to the High Dependency Unit. We almost flatlined there. I'm sure it will take a long time for the usage to get back to what it was before these problems originally materialised.

I think as a non-subscriber, we owe you very little indeed.

Thank you for your 'encouraging' words, however.

Ouch! No real need for that, IMO. I said 'we' meaning the community. I feel I am a contributing member of the Boards community, notwithstanding the fact that I am not a subscriber. I made a lot of timing stats posts during the slowdown, more than must subscribers did. Ah well, nice to know where I stand. :(

Sorry - its just a bit frustrating this.

We've not added a new server by the way - its really been Cloud and BoardTracker's wonderful assistance that have helped.

When the search does come back, performance seems to be much improved, although this may be because nobody has seen it come back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

    speaking of performance...

beaker: Page generated in 69.50579 seconds with 15 queries
    loading the half-life board

    Bugger.

pie appears to be quicker again.

Do I correctly surmise that BoardTracker is so"me kind of Search Outsourcing that is taking the search load away from the boards servers?

Their webpage seems aimed at the end user rather than a BB admin.

Would love a (slightly) technical explanation when you guys get a sec.

    In the meantime Nice One!!

Little irony - a seach for boardtracker comes back with "No Results - Powered by Boardtracker" - lol

After hours this morning:beaker: Page generated in 74.43528 seconds with 15 queries

I've noticed I only seem to get delays of this magnitude when loading forum pages, rather than threads.

Boardtracker explains who Pidgin is (sort of). See here. :o

It'll get really slow like that when someone does a horribly inefficient search. We're going to lock down the old search to just mods/smods/admins soon.
