Quick one folks....punter has dumped his car on my esate, 94 Ford Escort, parked about 15ft off a corner.

    No tax.
    No insurance.
    No NCT.
    4 Flat tyres.

Complained to the council and told them it was a danger as to where it was parked and it was obviously dumped.

They came back to say they couldnt remove it till they contacted the last registered owner.

Heard nowt for 2 weeks and got in touch with them again....by some miracle they had "Just heard back" the exact moment I got in touch with them and their reply was "The owner said he would get the tyres fixed"....Ehhh? WTF? But that doesnt resolve the fact that the car is DUMPED !

Asked the cops for their stance and they said they would "send someone up" but at the end of the day they said its not causing any harm ! BOLLOX !

Anybody come across this before?? Should it be removed? I bet if kids start smashing it up more people will complain and then the council will get off their ass and remove it !?!

Im not a moaner but its just pi55in me off everytime I drive past it now :(

Happened in my estate. Rang the Corporation and after around a fortnight it was taken away. They have to contact the owner and give them 14 days

If it had no license plates, the council would tow it straight away. Cough...Cough...
If the tax is more than 3 months out, the cops could tow it too.

as far as I know its only illegally parked if it's less than 4 metres from the corner. 15 ft is about 4 1/2:o get out the measuring tape there and see the exact distance:D

If someone ;) and a few strong mates were to maybe move part of the car onto the footpath and then call the police they should tow it.

Friends dad didnt do that before to great effect:D

I bet if you got into your own car and tore around the place they would trace your plate quick enough, and contact you...

I would have said the same, the tax is out since Feb but shes still sitting there with about 3 inches of muck and dirt on it and the cops still dont wanna know!

    Grrr !

The "cops" cant touch it unless they observe it being driven in a public place. Then they could seize it under Section 41 RTA.

They could however issue tickets for not displaying discs. The old ticket system is gone now and all done through handhelds so the local residents wont know if fines have been issued or not.

If it gets burned out or the plates are missing and it is reported it will be removed straight away.

A car must have both tax and insurance to remain in a public place, if it has neither then the cops can impound it, however I heard they are a little short of space.

just take off the plates at night and call the cops or council they should take it away.

If a stone were put through the window and the ignition wires were pulled out, as if an attempt to hotwire it were made, then it would be a safety issue... surely?

drain the fuel and put a match to it

Should you not just call the towing people directly. their always looking for a fast buck.

    Is it not parked illegally?

Yes. I got the runaround from the council and the police could not help (slightly different circumstances). Was resolved when I contacted my councillor directly. I suggest you do the same (remember we are in election countdown).

As others have said, were it to 'lose' its plates, it'd be taken away in a jiffy.

Syphon the fuel and keep it for yourself :)
    Then 'lose' the plates.

Just take the plates off, no coughing, no winking. I say just do it and waste no more time.

yes thats exactly the right way forward.then call the council or cops and someone will take it away.and if you can smash the one of the windows as then they will think someone will light it up into flames.once they think that then it will be taken away asap.

Burn it out. It will be gone within 2 days.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,217 ✭✭✭FX Meister

Burning it out isn't a very sensible idea though.

    Burning = skangers

    Mike.

Take the plates off and put them in a plastic bag and tie it to something underneath the car, no harm done and they'll realise the plates are actually still there when they tow it, but the jobs been done at that stage, hopefully.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭Sizzler

No need for the plates "falling off" or hoping someone is going to burn it out....SUCCESS the dirtbox has been moved ! By who I dont know but dont really give a fook now, its GONE ! If I was a betting man Id say the cops had something to do with it.

    Wahoo.

    :D:D
